2012 Hypnosis Census

I know you have a few questions about other hypnotists.

How much training do they have?
How many clients do they see?
What kinds of techniques do they use?
Do they work with doctors or psychologists at all?
Do they offer package deals or discounts?
How many of them follow up with their clients?

There's only one way to find out the answers to these kinds of questions. Last year we had about a dozen questions and well over 1,000 hypnotists responded. This year I've just about tripled the number of questions, and I'd like to triple the amount of responses we get.

With anything like this, the more information we get and the more data points we have, the more valuable it will be. I think knowing this kind of information is incredibly useful to us as a profession. I also think it's important that everyone gets the information.

This census is 100% confidential. I'm not asking for anyone's name, email address, contact info, etc. I'm going to share the collected information publicly, for free, for anyone who's interested.

I'm not asking anyone to sign up for anything, commit to anything, and I will not be sending you any follow ups or try to sell you something.

Here are the two things I'm asking everyone to do:

Take the 2012 Hypnosis Census
Post a link to it on facebook, send out an email, or find a way to get other hypnotists to take the census.

Please spend the two minutes it will take to answer these questions, and please do encourage people to take this census. I'd really like to create some serious momentum on this. I'd like to see thousands of results. There is no reason why every hypnotist with a computer shouldn't be aware of this survey.

Scott, I agree with Thal that this survey is geared mainly (or totally) toward practicing hypnotists. Since I am a subject only, I took it to see if I could contribute. I'm not sure about the results, but there were a lot of questions that I had to leave blank. Nice survey, though. Keep up the good work!

Thanks to everyone who's already participated.

Yes, as some of you noticed it's geared towards the profession of hypnosis, not clients or those interested in studying hypnosis. A good survey, in my opinion, should be focused.

One more request: EVERYONE SHOULD EMAIL A LINK TO THE SURVEY TO THEIR CERTIFYING HYPNOSIS ORGANIZATIONS, PRACTICE GROUP, OR INSTRUCTOR AND ASK THEM TO SEND THE SURVEY TO THEIR MAILING LIST.

This is all about getting a maximum amount data points. I need help on this one.

And so it is! Looking forward to the results of this year's survey. This will be a great contribution to future illuminated practices in our field. This will be especially valuable to those considering jumping in, or starting up. I am curious to see what participants determine as sufficient training. The survey doesn't allow us to identify if we have other healing arts skills or practice building experience. For the next time?

Same here. I got the e-mail to take the survey. I realized it didnt apply to me. I am not formaly educated and dont practice. So shortly into the survey I quit and left the page. I am interested in NLP and have studied on my own. My intent was and is to de-program myself from triggers that had me reacting to stimuli and reacting/performing out of character for who I really am. I have never had any desire to hypnotise anyone. Having said that I am guilty of using NLP on subtle levels to get people to see their own power of self regulation. ESP. Very neg. type A people I must associate with. Some times it works, some times it doesnt. It does take some conscious diligence to not respond to certain stimuli from the old program. That is someone elses personality layered over mine. As the penguin would sing, " I gotta be me" z : ))

If you want a true census of ALL the members of this website, this assumption is incorrect and the survey does not have a question path suitable to the training of non CHTs.

On the other hand if you want only CHT's to take the Census, then you need state that directly in the the opening statement... E.g. "Census of CHT's on Hypnothoughts" and or place a screening question at the very front of the survey to select for CHT's and then direct those who are not to end the survey.

This will give you the distribution of members who are and are not CHT's. Also use this question to filter for Stage Hypnotist's who are not currently or never where CHT's and have a branch or set of responses suitable to the training you may obtain to enter that line of work.

The take away here is that always include questions or responses within questions that detect and manage exceptions to your intended target respondent.

You can tell from the number of people NOT taking the census that perhaps some folks are self-screening. Many of your 'Lurkers' may be non-CHTs that are interesting in hypnosis and like to read what the pros have to say, like me!

Updates:

1. We are less than a week in and we already have about half the number of responses we got last year in almost two months. Let's keep it going!

2. I modified the "education and training hours" question to include structured distance learning programs, not just face to face training. (The amount of angry emails I got about that was a little worrying, and I had to change the question out of fear for the well being of my loved ones. Some of you were polite, others not so much.)
