I've got a fun new way of giving stuff away, and for those of you with products, a great way to promote your stuff. Read below to find out how to get and give.

We are right at the cusp of hitting 5,000 members, which is really an unbelievable accomplishment for a website that had such humble beginnings. For the first few months this site existed, I didn't even tell anyone about it, and look at it now.

The statistics on this site really are amazing. This is, by far, the fastest growing hypnosis website, and the fastest growing hypnosis community, ever. This isn't because we have the most advanced hardware, and it isn't the best software imaginable. This wasn't the first hypnosis site like this, and it won't be the last. What makes this site special is the way you all respect each other on here and the quality of the conversations you guys have. The welcoming tone that most people extend to others, even when they disagree, makes this site a great place to learn and share ideas about hypnosis.

Before I get into the fun new idea, I want to thank you all for being a part of this online community. Thank you for not treating the site as a mailing list you can market to, but instead to be part of a group you are a member of. That mutual respect is one of the great things that makes this site a success. I can't say it enough.

Sooo, with that in mind, I'd like to celebrate by giving stuff away! Additionally, if you have stuff to give away, you can read below to find out how.

the HypnoSummit 5K Benefit goes a little something like this: we got 5K members, so you guys Benefit. Just like in a 5K race, we need to hand out gatorade and water to the participants. This means that I'm gonna need volunteers to pass out the cups of water to all these thirsty people. That's enough metaphor for me, lets get down to what's in it for all of you:

Anyone can give away a hypnosis/business related gift to another member on this site. If you give something away, you can describe it (this is basically a small ad for your product). I will be giving things away, and I hope those of you who are able to participate will. Below are the rules (please don't break them, it sort of ruins the fun):

RULES FOR THE HYPNOTHOUGHTS 5K GIVE AWAY:

~ If you see a question, comment, or reply in a discussion thread, blog post, etc. that moves you in some way, contact the author directly and let them know what you want to give them.

~ You may only give 1 (one) of any product away and say so in only one location. There is no limit on how many different things you can give away.

~You are then welcome to announce the giving of that gift in the forum after you have contacted the individual directly.

~ You do not have to announce that you are giving the gift publicly. That is completely up to you.

~The recipient is also welcome to post a thank you/review of the product in the blog section of the site or as a follow up within the discussion that inspired the gift.

~ Please refrain for asking for things directly or fishing for handouts, as that goes against the spirit of giving and receiving gifts. Just like in the race, you earn the drink by participating, not standing around talking about how thirsty you are.

~ This is not a place for blatant promotions or mass discounts. This is for specific and thoughtful giving.

~ Please keep things fun and respect the spirit in which this is intended without taking advantage of it. Make this about the community, not your business. You will get way more out of this if you act out of sincerity. It's way more fun, and people will be able to tell what your intentions are.

~ The giver and receiver will handle all shipping (if necessary) between the two of them. No adding things to my to do list

UPDATED RULE: No trying to sign people up for mailing lists. No pretending your "opt in" freebie on your website is a sincere and thoughtful gift to a member of this community. The gift must be from one person to one person. No more "everyone can come download this _____ for free" business. Make a connection and be sincere.

That’s it. If you see someone that would be bettered by education or entertainment, help them get it. What could be more rewarding than giving away education to an inspired and motivated peer? With the current economy and times tougher than normal it’s good to remember the feelings of abundance and generosity.

It's this kind of sharing and sincerity that has made this site so much fun. Let's celebrate this milestone by demonstrating what this community is all about.

Thanks for participating,
Scott and the team

Hey Scott,

Just want to say that I appreciate your site and the thank you's given to all of us for our respect - One thing i really want to express is that everything comes from the top - a business is only as good as it's management! So, a massive thank you goes to you as you have spread the awesome feeling down to us :)

I feel truly blessed to have found this place and it has changed me as a therapist in such a good way - and this will continue as i keep coming back here to learn from all the amazing people that give their time and knowledge to me xoxoxox

Neat idea! Helping us who are new to the field light our candle from the bonfires of those more learned. Thanks Scott.

This is great idea and I feel I have already received so much. Being a new hypnotherapist I don't know what I can give....but will try my hardest.

hell of an ideal. I don't really have anything to share, but my ideals. With that said it could either be priceless or just ignored.
Theres nothing better that a shared passion and working forward to improve a field you believe has much more possibilites than what is currently held even in thought. Finding this place was a gift all in its self. I found people that like the same things I do and we can discuss it maturely in a manner that everyone gets something positive from the interaction.

Best wishes,

the silver linings are in the skys every night you just have to look alittle harder sometimes

You're a genius, Scott - and it's no surprise to any of us that you'd announce this milestone in a way that shows your integrity and your abundant mindset. 10K can't be too far off . . . right? :-) Brennan

Okay...well, technically we're not at 5,000 members yet, but I LOVE giving presents, and this concept alone calls for one. :) Actually, this whole website calls for lots and lots of presents.

Even though I'm not a hypnotherapist or NLPer, these two methodologies mean the world to me and I'm blessed to have found so many experts here. It's lovely how so many of you have helped me learn and helped me look at things in entirely different ways! (And it's also wonderful how no one here talks down to me when I ask newbie questions. I really appreciate that.)

So, although I'm going to be handing out several presents, I'm going to start at the top. It's not hypnosis-related, Mr. Sandland, but you'll be getting a package at work in the next couple of weeks. (Yes, it's a surprise. I'd be shocked if you don't already have one, but perhaps the version I'm sending is a slight upgrade.)

Scott, thanks so much for all the time, money, energy, heart and soul you pour into HypnoThoughts on a daily basis.

Sincerely,
Kathleen

Okay-

New rule:

NO squeeze pages or making people sign up to a mailing list. That's not a special gift, that's something you are giving to anyone and everyone that goes to a webpage. Gifts aren't conditional, and don't require action steps. Have you heard the expression, "it's the thought that counts?"

My sports illustrated football phone isn't actually a gift, it's just free. See the difference?

Hi Scott.

That's a great idea.

I always find that as a hypnotist the one thing I NEVER get is a nice well being session.

That's why I'd like to extend a free gift to everyone here.

A 20 minute future pacing NLP success session!

Help yourself at http://www.thedreamexperience.com

Have a great day.

By the way-

I'm getting a very fun amount of thanks for a bunch of hard work. Two things:

1. you're welcome.

2. A great deal of thanks goes to the rest of the team that doesn't get anywhere near the recognition they deserve. A huge thanks goes to the moderators, but there are other people who help me with occassional tech things, etc. And from a practical standpoint, thanks to the paid advertisers who help keep the lights on. And thanks to the moderators again, because they deserve it.

talk to you all soon,
Scott
