Has anyone ever heard of autism being successfully treated with hypnotherapy? Or anything related?

My ex girl friends son is autistic and I couldn't help but wonder if hypnosis has been a successful treatment for autism in the past...I told her to look into to it...Her son was diagnosed with autism when he was 18 months and he is now 5 yrs old....over the last year Justin seems to have learned a lot, although he currently doesn't speak, he does understand some and he makes sounds...It seems that hypnosis might work however I wonder if his limited understanding of english would impede a successful intervention. I am not an expert, only a student of hypnosis and would appreciate any and all relevant feedback, including past cases of professionals working with autism, etc. Thank you.

It was 1997, I knew a boy who I went with my friend Ed who worked at the time as a restaurant manager in one of the Mexican restaurants in Canoga Park He meet this spacial kid who had an autism, He was invited to join them to Universal Studios for FREE and Ed invited me to come along, Of course we also babysat this 6 year old boy at the time...
I think they had many head lines about him at the time, he was even in Jenny Johns show...

That was the headlines then: I even have pictures with Beetle Juice and us :)
I Think they call it to this day "BEETLE-JUICE THERAPY"' AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
Mikey was 6 years old with autism - he wasn't communicative at all, seats and plays in his own world.. you could tell he was very smart... But as soon as we entered the gates of Universal Studios, It will be like magic, Mikey.. will become alive and alert.. you never seen anything like that... so I use to go with my friend Ed, Mikey and his Mother, we watched Beetle Juice for FREE and visited the amusement park for free any time at Universal Studios, I think he had a life time free pass to visit their with friends and family, and since then Mikey could be a regular boy from time to time during the show and few hours later, then he be back in his regular autism life style... not sure what happened to him, but I just had a smiley flash back.... he was so cute..

Any ways, I herd of a book by Jenny McCarthy with excellent alternatives to treating autism. I would definitely have the mother read it.

Hi Ken
I know someone that has had amazing success with Autism .....you should talk to him .....email me if you would like an intro

Craig
I would be interested in what you find out. I work with parents of disabled children (some with autism) and would love to hear about this.

I would like to hear your results. I have read different materials that individuals have worked with some of the symptoms of Autism. This would be interesting to me since I have a 8 year background as a Special Ed teacher.
I have Asperger's Syndrome and would be interested in any techniques you have found. Currently I've been doing self hypnosis to improve the filtering out of extraneous noise and assist with picking out what people are saying. Also to try and be more comfortable with making eye contact with others.
Hi,

I think hypnosis can help people with Autism function with greater ease - depending on the Autisic's ability to particpate in the process-

1. I suggest non-licensed hypnosis professionals change language from "treating" autism with hypnosis to "helping with people with autism with hypnosis"

2. Note many parents are reluctant to try hypnosis because they believe that autism is a physical problem and they believe that hypnosis can only help psychological problems -- Educating the parents can open doors -- Hypnosis can help people with neurological problems as well as helping people with psycho-emotional problems.

3. Every client heals in his own way -- especially true of autisic children -- No cookie cutter approaches - please...

4. I highly recommend Jenny McCarty's book: Mother Warriors: A Nation of Parents Healing Autism Against all Odds.

5. Creating a deep felt sense of rapport and respecting the Austic child's space is very important in developing the relationship necessary for effective help...
I have yet to hear of any techniques using hypnosis...
However, I do have a recommendation and good
information to check out:
ABA Behavioral Intervention Technique. It is based on Operant Conditioning...
it has some glowing reports.
One mother wrote a book about her son - then and now.
I think it is called A Mother's Story by Karen Siff.
here is a small article on her:

Glad I found this post. I had hosted a Hypnosis comedy show a few months back, time flies, for a fund-raiser, awards banquet for Autistic Kids .(Jr.High age) and their families.
I had asked the people riunning this very large and opulent hall to keep the autistic kids out of my show, as I had chairs on the floor and it was noisey, and just a bit out of control, and for other reasons.
Well, unknown to me, some chairs got filled by a few kids who jumped into participate who were midly autistic.
They were great, went right out, properly responsive and were wonderful.
After the show, they were calm and relaxed, as one happy parent put it, "happy and calm, listening, a whole different kid."
I share this here, for as with A.D.D.kids, etc., their reactions are calmer and more centered post-Hypnotically.
Thank you for your feedback, particularly regarding the importance of how things are languaged. I still was wondering: Have you have ever read or heard of someone with autism being completely or drastically helped with hypnosis?
thank you
