Has anyone ever heard of autism being successfully treated with hypnotherapy? Or anything related?

My ex girl friends son is autistic and I couldn't help but wonder if hypnosis has been a successful treatment for autism in the past...I told her to look into to it...Her son was diagnosed with autism when he was 18 months and he is now 5 yrs old....over the last year Justin seems to have learned a lot, although he currently doesn't speak, he does understand some and he makes sounds...It seems that hypnosis might work however I wonder if his limited understanding of english would impede a successful intervention. I am not an expert, only a student of hypnosis and would appreciate any and all relevant feedback, including past cases of professionals working with autism, etc. Thank you.

Hi Craig,
If you still have the contact information for the person you know that has had success with autism, I would love to contact them. I have a child with autism coming in in a couple of weeks for an EFT session for anger. Autistic children are often very intelligent and I'm thinking that hypnosis might also be of value. The grandmother has custody of her and 5 siblings. I so want to be able assist the child with a more peaceful life that will help her and her family.

Thank you

I think that depends on what you mean by success? Contact Katherine Zimmerman. I believe she has done some work in this area. EFT is amazing ... so who knows!

I have heard of great strides being made with the use of music and brainwave technology.
Now that I think about it, contact DeAnna Torres. She is on this site. She can probably give you a great deal of insight into the subject.

Let us know how it turns out. I prefer not to work with children; but would be curious of how effective the session was. I am fascinated with brainwave technology and its effectiveness with the brain ... it has been shown to be an effective tool for autism, ADD / ADHD, and dementia.
Although I have not worked with Autism yet, I have had a great deal of success with a student that has Asperger's. Some of his main challenges were being able to feel emotions but he also had issues with eye contact and filtering both internally and externally. Internally meaning how he reacted to outside stimulus and externally meaning the kinds of things that would come out of his mouth (some that could make many feel very uncomfortable). It took a lot of patience, a lot of noticing what worked, and what didn't, but he had a very profound transformation during the training and he tells me he has continued with success after success. Although I had 2 private sessions with him during the course, I give most of the credit to the highly experiential and supportive classroom environment that allowed him to gently break down a number of limiting beliefs along with myself learning a lot regarding how to communicate more *logically* in order to speak his particular *language*. It wasn't always easy but tremendous progress was made on his part and he tells me that progress continues on... **Just note, we used a lot more then just traditional hypnosis with him. Many things I just thought of on the spot. It all comes down to knowing he/she wants and together noticing what works, noticing what doesn't and changing your approach accordingly until as a team, you help your client to achieve it...

I have Asperger's Syndrome and would be interested in any techniques you have found. Currently I've been doing self hypnosis to improve the filtering out of extraneous noise and assist with picking out what people are saying. Also to try and be more comfortable with making eye contact with others.
Hello Ken,

I have worked with autism, and I have learned that there are many types of autism and many degrees of brain damage in autistic people. but the most five common types are: Asperger's syndrome; Childhood disintegrative disorder; Rett's disease; PDD NOS or pervasive developmental. Hypnosis can help to overcome and even heal autism in some cases, because our brain can often heal itself over time. From my experience working with autistic children and even dating one, I was able to learn to help autistic children to help them to know themselves better inword...

Autistic children have great difficulty with grammar, spelling, public speaking, socializing, and name or face memory, as well as learning languages. ( Some Autistic children and adult have a great photographic memory)

Autistic children are highly intelligent with an advanced imagination, even at age five while he is away for hours rocking in his own world, he is suggestible to hypnotic suggestions, so record a simple hypnotic relaxation with post hypnotic suggestion to improve his motor skills, confidence and speech as he gets better and better each and every day.

Since you know the child, see what games he likes the most and have him imagine him self improving his social skills using the images in game.

PS: Make sure you don't talk too much and make sure to have some long pauses, If not, the autistic child can easily lose interest, because if more then two tasks is given to him at the same time, he will not hear you...

Hope that helps...

Hi Grace
sorry I have only just seen your post .....i will contact you privately ;-)
Sorry Rick
But it seems whenever I post something of use on here .....Something that I have personally experienced working....The others with vested interests in training programs ridicule and put up all the reasons why it wont work ....so these days I prefer to give the information directly to those who need it and appreciate it

Hi Craig:

If someone has had real success in treating Autism, why is it a problem posting such even if you feel a need to ask them for permission first???I would sure like to learn more about this question as it has long been on my mind.

Best,
Rick

If your friend has amazing success with autism, please encourage him to write a book and/or articles and share his expertise with the entire hypnotherapy profession.

I applaud you for your use of self-hypnosis. We should all practice self-hypnosis more often!
