Pardon me if you who read this have other opinions but I've always thought that even though stage hypnosis is quite entertaining and in most cases profitable, It scares the h--L out of many people and quite honestly makes it more difficult for the therapist who uses it to make a decent living. Fear is a great motivator and I've had to relocate in order to earn a decent income. My books and CDs plus my seminars and trainings have kept me afloat yet if I was dependent on my Hypnosis practice alone, I would have to take a job. What are some thoughts? I call myself a Hypnotherapist and the ones who do stage work Hypnotists. Hypnos is a Greek word for sleep.

Any thoughts?

I have been doing stage shows to promote hypnotherapy. The best advertising I've come up with so far.. No one is ever afraid durring or after my shows. I am a shrine clown so I do only family friendly material and absolutely no regression.

I do use NLP in both my shows and in hypnotherapy, and never explain what I am doing. That's as close as I get to Dr. Milton Ericson. After that it's mostly the methods of Dave Elman. All of the stage and street inductions I have come up with are all varriations of an Elman induction. I have been thinking of taking some speed or instant induction classes, but I wonder if there is a lot more to learn beyond what I have discovered, which for me is the instant induction's relationship to the pretalk. If I do take the training it will probably be with some one like Brian David Phillips. A fellow I took my Hypnoanalysis class with trained with Brian and said that Brian rocked.

I got into hypnosis to be a showman, a clown for grown-ups. Now I do more therapy than I expected and I need it to pay for the Virtual Soundman I want, oh and a new microphone..

I want to be free to do what I am doing. I do my therapy out of the local healthfood store now and I would like to do better than my one show a month goal. I am willing to back organizations to let me continue to do this and I am willing to continue my education if necessary. I already carry two insurance policies (One for therapy and one for show) and always conduct myself in a professional manner.

Hey who's soap box is this?

The VS is good however it can be buggy.. Having a good mike and camera are vital.

Jerry, thank you for the very kind words. We are actually in early planning stages for a return to the US for another walkabout event. When it's settled, we'll post details in the appropriate locales.

All the best,
Brian
