What are your opinions on treating someone with schizophrenia?
Also how would you go about helping them?

Looking forward to your replies.

Hey Chloe,
unless your in the line of work that a mental health professional is I would strongly suggest that you don't treat it... I know from personal experiences that Schizophrenia is something that is hard to deal as as a family member let alone being a therapest... If this is something that the patient and Doctor have discussed as a part of the treatment plan I would recomend, talking to that dr to see what is they actually want you to do.. you obviously know from recent post responses that you face a huge liability here.. And while I know it feels good to help someone this is often a situation that breeds more heartache than smiles..

All the best let me know how it goes
Amanda
Hi Cloe-Marie,
I have to agree...I'm all for helping people and I probably take on some clients that other hypnotherapists would refer on but schizophrenia is a no no in my book...... Leave this kind of work to those who are trained for it. (Just my own personal opinion)

Chloe, as the other respondents mentioned you are best advised to steer clear of a schizophrenic client. I worked for a number of years in the psychiatric rehab field and a large part of the assistance we gave schizophrenic patients was to encourage them to become more outer-directed-to become more engaged with normal activities of daily life, appropriate social interaction, vocational and residential training and the like.

Hypnotic and meditative practices could actually be contraindicated for many of these individuals because they already spend too much time in their inner world and become withdrawn and "out of touch" with consensual reality. With that said, you could be of assistance to the family members of someone with serious and persistent mental illness by helping them to better cope with their considerable stress.
why not ask yer mum?

Please do yourself a favor and get out of the habit of thinking about "TREATING" any health related conditions with hypnosis-- licensed health care professionals - "Treat" -- Certified hypnosis practitioners "assist"

Bobby - The good news about your opinion concerning Schizophrenia is it is curable! A hypno can assist some one suffering with dementia -- focus on helping them learn how to access resource states in which they function at higher levels- Just do not Treat the dementia-

Amanda - I agree, it would be best if the client's doctor supported a hypno's helping his or her patient - If this is possible - this is the way to go -- The short news item below might help the doc decide hypnosis could help

James- We used to think that hypnosis only worked on the "weak minded" and now we know better - We used to think that hypnosis was contra-indicated in people with Dementia and new research challenges that belief--
Example:
Hypnosis may slow dementia
Hypnosis may be an effective way to treat patients battling dementia, according to new research.
A study carried out at the University of Liverpool showed regular sessions of hypnotherapy led to improvements in concentration and memory.
Patients were also more likely to socialise and less inclined to become depressed.
Alzheimer's disease, the main form of dementia, affects 750,000 Britons.
In the study, a group of patients attended sessions where they discussed news and current affairs. The other underwent hypnosis.
Dr Simon Duff, the forensic psychologist who led the study, said: 'Those having hypnosis sessions showed real improvement across all the areas we looked at.'

Have a better day or night-

Ciao for now-

Same way as I treat bipolar, do everything to give their esteem and control back, works every time to the extent I have had clients tested before and after treatment, no trace afterwards, plus I have also successfully used strangely enough up to 23 grams Vit C a day but don't recommend dosages like that unless you know what you're doing..Art
forgive me if im wrong, but im pretty sure schizophrenia has'nt anything to do
with depression (bi-polar).

and 500mg to 1000mg of vit c a day wont hurt anyone, ive been doing it for yrs.
(specially this time of year).
Art said he uses 23 GRAMS not mg. That is the same as 23000mg.

Art,

Have you read Norman Cousins, Anatomy of a Patient? Cured himself of Ankylosing Spondylitis used even higher levels of vit C intraveiniously! I have the same thing and was on and off steroids for 15 years until I read his book. In the past 5 years have only used steroids twice and only for a few days instead of months. Needless to say my doctor was amazed!

There's alot that can be healed without pharmaceuticals!

Amanda, Chloe isn't assisting anyone with schizophrenia, she isn't old enough, she is on here learning, just wanting opinions, she is like a sponge lol, a beautiful one at that. Thank you for your reply and concern though, and pointing her in the correct direction
Since we are going down this rabbit trail,

Here is the godfather of megadosing with vitamins...in my opinion.

Help in connection with schizophrenia for me too sounds like "only looking for information". But...nevertheless there is a breed called schizophrenics. You can see them all around. Only few are locked away!
