in the news today - man hypnotizes cashier in italy and steals money - your thoughts?

I'm curious as to other hypnotists thoughts on this: in todays news, it reports how a man in italy hypnotized a cashier. He apparently had her make change, talked her into trance and took her money - at the end of the day she was over 1,000k short in her account and couldn't recall the incident. (see video -> http://www.yahoo.com/s/840121) - I personally have mixed feelings about if this is even possible. Could she possibly be so suggestable that this is even possible? Anyone care to comment on this?
thanks!

I think it is impossible, just another way to say hypnosis is about controlling people... The cashier was too calm about it, I am sure she knew the guy, no one comes that close to someone when they talking to the cashier...
my 2 cents... Doreen
yeah, the person may have got a kickback if you catch my drift, but I wasn't there so I can't really comment either. Still, something about it seems funny to me.
Erik sent me a link to the article on it.

I just don't buy it. I think that she is an accomplice. Even if he was able to do an instant induction a person is still not going to hand over the cash, she simply wouldn't respond to the suggestion. Someone should do a little hypnosis to help her remember the incident..

There was also a piece in the papers, an article about the size of a postage stamp, about 4 years back in Moscow, same deal with banks.
Here it is on TV again:

And by the way, "look into my eyes," Hypnosis or Dracula? LOL
She's either an accomplice or . . . which is something else I haven't seen written anyplace, he might have caught her in a moment of naturally occurring Trance, where she was hyper-suggestible. Think back to a time in school, you are dazed out *tranced) by a boring and monotonous teacher, the teacher calls you to answer a question, you have no idea what you were just asked. Your so called friend, whispers a silly and incorrect answer, and you repeat it out loud as the teacher frowns, the class laughs and you feel foolish. In a Hyper-suggestible state, brought on by boring work, exhaustion, etc., it could happen.
possible I suppose but this is a question of morality and if your school mate were to suggest that you strip naked at that point I think that you might ignor that suggestion. The same is true here, I just don't think that she is going to hand over the money like that.

I see you haven't met my old school-mates, LOL.
Stripping would take quite a bit of time, handing out the wrong change, pretty fast and easy.
It's a matter of bypassing critical thinking. I know what I shared above is rather radical, just a thought though. When I invented and developed my Speed-Trance Inductions, I had been considering for some time, what it was, what intangible, what below the radar moment was there for super-instant trance. There are moments in human consciousness where with the right words, thoughts, motions, actions, etc., one can get in there beneath the radar and suggest.
Just some thoughts.

How could some one be THAT suggestible?
I have to agree with you as well John. When a person knows they are being hypnotized they have the ability to reject suggestions, but what if a person doesn't know they are being hypnotized it could be a different story. I'm not saying this is true to everyone, but in certain situations waking hypnosis can be very powerful when used correctly.

I hate to use Derren Brown as a example, but in one video he uses certain techniques to give people paper money instead of the real thing and walks out with the product. Now I know he is a magician as well and other techniques are involved with this demostration, but more than likely it can be done. So all someone has to do is change up the technique a little that Derren used. There is also a guy on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNhwIsL5GbE
he walks up to people and places them in hypnosis without permission which I don't believe anyone should do.

Mark Cunningham also has a interesting take on this on his Intro to Hypnosis set. He doesn't mention this idea exactly, but a concept that goes with this discussion. When a person is conditioned and in the right setting I believe this could be done, but once again until I hear the audio or see a better version of the video I can't say. I could be wrong but their appears to be a part in the video that looks like a pattern interupt, but I could be wrong as I stated. All I know is this guy is pretty dumb because now his face is all over the place.
I don't believe this whole "hypnotists hypnotizes a woman into giving him $1000" thing is legit either, however, for arguement sake, could it happen like this... Hypnotist walks in to store and finds a sombalistic, disgruntled cashier...he's able to put her into trance and convince her to make the wrong change. She hates her job so ethically she's not very opposed to it. He leaves and her subconcious mind is so embarrassed at her gaffe as well as is aware that if she recalls the incident she'll get in trouble and fired, so she slips into a protective amnesia? I know it's a stretch, but I'm wondering if it's possible and feasible.
Maybe he didn't suggest something as obvious as to steal the money rather he suggested what change she was looking at. Possibly he played a type of "shell game" with the change and convinced her that the accessive amount was the correct amount? again, still just kicking the tires on some theories.
Interesting idea Walter and I believe that could be possible. Stranger things have happened in hypnosis.
