Hi everyone,
I'm trying to work on some insecurities and responses to certain situation with crowds, using self-hypnosis...

So I'm sitting in a comfortable place, not falling asleep anymore (that was my previous sticking point :D). I relax and do the induction in my own head, talking to myself with my thoughts...

I do feel a deep relaxation, my body relaxes and all, until I hardly feel it. But the suggestions I say to myself simply don't work ... I'm still afraid (I believe that at the same level of fear as before) of the same situations with crowds.

When I see stage hypnotists, it seems that their suggestions are far more powerfull and immediate then mine...

What am I doing wrong?!? I did those session like 12 times…

I think you guys are really on spot here, because yesterday I had to go and speak, and didn't feel my usual irrational fear – a stream of negative thoughts speeding trough my head before I go up to speak. This time it was more of "reluctance" to go up, not irrational but more as if I do not like to do it, and prefer not to, but all in a relaxed matter (thanks everyone who helped me – I used your suggestions and applied them all, recording a session with all the pointers I've been given here and here I am in a much better situation already). So now, like you said, I guess I need to find the other negative perception I might have of the situation, other limiting beliefs, and treat them the same way. I'm going to remake that session and add suggestion such as "you enjoy speaking in front of crowds, its fun" …

An irrational fear is usually caused by a specific event, and then can be amplified by other events that reinforce it. A fear is just a programmed response to a stimulus or trigger, because that is what was learned by the subconscious. I know you are trying to overcome this fear by self hypnosis and I wish you luck with it, but a guided hypnosis session by someone who knows what they are doing can eliminate it for you. There might be, and probably is, more than one cause that is contributing here and this is one reason you are experiencing difficulty. Unless you identify and get them all, your issue will not totally go away, as you have already noticed.

I do have a technique I use for removing unwanted feelings. I use it mostly for smokers who I tell to make sure they have cravings when they come to me. Takes about 30 seconds and the craving is eliminated.. until it is triggered again. Short term fix, but it convinces them that hypnosis really can help them and establishes confidence and credibility before the session ever starts. Since fear is a feeling, I know it would work on it, and was thinking maybe you could use this technique just before speaking. I don't know if it would help you or not, being that after you use it you will put yourself into the "trigger zone" so to speak, but I will give it to you if you want it. I have used it successfully with a speaker who was with toastmasters for that very same problem. The guy was a nervous wreck. He was soaking his speaking notes from the sweat of his palms. I offered him assistance, and he told me he was willing to try anything. He hated feeling like this, but it was the reason he joined toastmasters, to try and get over it. After I did it, he went from the sweaty hands, shaky voice, throat clearing, being overwhelmed feeling...to a relaxed, joking, pleasantly informative speaker. He gave a great presentation that was enjoyed by everyone. He said after his presentation that he for the first time had actually enjoyed getting up in front of the group and speaking. It seemed to work very well for him in that instance.
