What do you think about reading from a script....

So based on what I am learning as I read here. Is it really faux pas to conduct a session for a client and read from a script. Is this something you should break away from ?
My general worry is that I wont talk long enough, and the session wont have all the info in it that it should contain and therefore lack the impact ?

Thought / Comments ?

I have NO authority to answer this as im just a beginner, but i read in many books especially in "trance works" by yapko, that once you learn the hypnotic operators, what makes up the hypnosis session, then you are well on your way, because the ideal power of influence is when the "patter/scipt" is "MADE" for your client, ideally you should LEARN from scripts how to arrange your own patter... im learning from scripts at the moment on some stuffed animals, then i imagine the animal to be a friend or a type of person giving characteristics and personality then put the script away and beginning moulding my "mental script" to THAT "person" (doesnt work well on stuffed animals though) :D...

Just my thought... IMO

Leo...
Well thank you for your Input Leo. I appreciate it.

Have you read the book Trance Works ?

Kenda.
Im still in the process of reading Trancework find it really informative and also like 'My voice will go with you... " - by sidney rosen.

What books do u like? have u read them?

Leo :D
I haven't read any of those Leo. They sound like they have the premise though. Which I like.

I haven't bought alot of books.
I have a few that mostly explain Hypnosis, or books that contain Patter scripts.

Having written from what I've been told, a top selling Script Book, I am a bit biased.
But I will tell you, your script is only as good as the clinician witting it.
One of the reasons I wrote and published my book, was I felt as you did, other session scripts were too short and spread out over a page in large font, triple spaced, or in some cases, written in negative language, or old stuff. I got tired of the struggle and published. The scripts I wrote have been carefully writtren, up to date and proven to work, so they are successfully field tested.
I also thought it to be of value to keep records, so by using my script I'd have a record of what I did. Many of us are still shooting from the hip, no records of what we did, words and ideas off the top of our heads, great if ever involved with a court case huh?
Most clinicians who use my stuff had told me they either read it verbatim, and / or add to it, or adapt it and add to the script as needed. Why the 2nd guessing?
Just my view on your post, others mileage might vary.
Just Curious (this is my famous question) what made you come to hypno and how was it when you were just a beginner?

I have Almost 60-70 books on hypnosis, mainly Milton Erickson, Richard Bandler, John Grinder, Morganic...

Those are some authors that are quite good also Igor LedoChowski's Power of hypnosis and Conversational hypnosis is REALLY good...

i also suggest keep watching videos of other hypnotists doing their thing Like Richard and John... because http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/3204/01.html lol... just some advice given to me :D... any advice for me?
Ok interesting flip John.

Hmmm you got me thinking again.

Kenda.
And I do just that Patricia. Adapt a script to an individual client - so it suits their sceniro.
I have always envied the people though that say - oh I never use scripts.
I just wonder how they know everything that they have to say to get the results they need.

yikes im a midget when the PRO's are around lol...
Leo I came here after taking Richards Stage course in TO a few weeks back. Met Richard , absolutely loved his class - learnt an awful lot from him. And picked his brain every chance we could. So I have only been on here 2 weeks or so.
I have been in a part-time business for 2 years now. Major fall back for me was in this area not alot of support when I started out. So you had to search out any way you could answers to your very urgent questions. I stuck with it though, where alot of my classmates have come and gone. I jumped in and have loved it. Took an NLP class which help increases my confidence and oriente me with my goals so that I can become what is in me. I know have a path I am following with drive and desire, that I never had before. I love this site, and am very happy to have it.

How bout yourself what brought you here ?

Kenda.
well im not exactly 'here' yet, havnt been to any courses nor have i hypnoed anyone yet...

but i love helping people and i think hypnotherapy is the best, no doubt....

so im on my journey, have any directions lol?
