HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

One of the strengths of this excellent resource is the openess and inclusive attitude of the membership and moderators. As a non-hpnotherapist I have been welcomed and made feel "at home."

I especially enjoy the clinical discussions - it is fascinating to read the various approaches and opinions. However, as some fairly specific information is contained in some of the cases under discussion, I am wondering whether a private forum for these exchanges might be a good idea. My fear is that a client will Google the name of his therapist and find their case being discussed by the group. This might be fairly traumatic and upsetting.

Such a forum could be open to established members only.

Anyway - just a thought...

I think that a therapist whould be aware that this is a possibility and not provide infromation that will reveal the identiy of a client in posts....
Having a "secret" board would eliminate the google results that bring new hypnotists to this board, and limit public discussion to issues that were fairly petty.

And so, while it is a good idea in principle, I think that the responsibilty is on the therapist to post in a way that does not give client information, rather than for the administrators to protect the client.

Now, another forum I participate in, the magic cafe, does something similar, and it seems people only post on those boards or never post on those boards, resulting in essentially two seprate forums within one....
I can understand the idea here, I just dont think its hypnothoughts responsibility. From a purely business perspective, a shielded section limits hits to those pages, making them less valuable to Scott from a financial perspective.

It would seem to me that this would be the purpose of the Private Message function, or private chat...

Just my 2 cents.... I will like the board either way...
Hello Philco,

I like the idea of a private forum case conference discussion and exchange knowledge, but it is not necessarily... because as a Therapist we know how to do it, so it does not reveal any personal information of any clients... beside I always inform my client that sometimes we discuss their issue without using their names for purpose of educating other students and as continue education.
If the client trust the therapist, there is no problem here, even if they are going to Google any names, as long as their personal name is protected.. how many clients are their for phobia, fear, anxiety, heart conditions, stroke, I am sure not one single.. so the odds to take this messages personally are very slim.

I think it is a good idea, but it is not that such of a big deal.. this is how i see it.

Philco-
I'm glad you are enjoying the site. I'm thrilled with the sense of community this site is creating. Truth be told, it's the members that are doing that, so I really don't deserve much credit for that.

As for specific client details, we have an option similar to what you are requesting.

It's a group for case studies and specifics, located here.

Groups are able to be made private, but the forums can't be. The only way to make the forum private would be to block non members from seeing any content on the site. I considered this at one point, until I did the research and saw that 40% of the monthly visitors are non-members. In fact, I've had discussions with people who aren't members about how much they enjoy reading the site.

At the end of the day I agree with Richard though. Protecting privileged client information is the responsibility of the practitioner, not the internet.

Hope that helps,
Scott Sandland
Hi Scott,

Just wanted to add, that I have posted in this specific group for case study studies and no one responded back, so I deleted my posting and post the same thing on the forum with faster response, so I know, that I will not be using that page anymore, I was excited at the beginning, but I find this forum much more affective and faster.

my experience any ways.

Doreen
Fair enough -- it was just a passing thought :)
