Parting Ways ....
Been confronted by a conflicting "Part" of a cleint who wants to be " killed-off". All of the other presented ego states are in harmony that this malevolent part should leave! Now, I am in agreement with Brother Emmerson that " While it may seem appropriate for a state to leave, this is probably not possible, and usually not preferred".
Thus my dilemina, just curious if anyone, has had any successful "Kills".
And, yes ... I have worked with re-framing, empowering and supporting the negative state.

No, it isn't preferred but over the years I've had a couple of clients who insisted that the part had to leave. Although my focus is on a win-win-- asking the part to perform a new job that is agreeable to the part and the client-- it is client centered therapy. If the client insists that this is the only way, I will assist in that process. It's very sad, though, as the parts don't want to go. However, my clients who have "fired" a part seem to do quite well in our follow up work.
