How many Hypnotherapists implement the use of Anchors. When I work with a client on childhood issues or past life regression I find an Anchor a very important part of the process. Most of the certification classes I've taken and their have been many, do not teach anchoring in their classes. Anchoring is the ability to elicit good and peaceful/happy feelings with a touch and or some words. If someone becomes frightened or upset while in a trance state, you can fire off the Anchor and bring back good/safe feelings. I learned of Anchoring through the NLP classes and teach them in my classes. I would appreciate your feedback on this subject.

Sincerely,

Robert Burns

Great thread, I awlays use anchoring in my smoking cessation, I anchor the state of calm and relaxation to the action of touching the thumb and index finger together, then give them the post hypnotic suggestion, "anytime anywhere you are stressed, craving nicotine, anxious, angry or simple need to relax and reframe, you can touch those fingers together for a moment and return instantly to the feelings of calm, serenity and peace that you have creted here in this room. In fact, you can do this anywhere, without renetering hypnosis, and even with the eyes open, just touch those fingers together and allow yourself to feel a sense of freedom, confidence, serentiy, calm and relaxation."
Thanks for the reply Richard, I use anchors in that context also and they're so very powerful. I'm still attempting to figure why they're not taught in many of the certification classes at least not the ones I have taken by many of the well known boards. Thanks again.

Bob
I teach anchoring as a basic technique in all of my certification classes. Actually my very first exposure to hypnosis or pychotherapy was when I was 18 and saw a therapist for one session. He used anchoring, and to this day, I still use that anchor to manage my stress, and that was at least 25 years ago...
I use anchoring for public speaking and in fight prep sessions. On the erotic side you can just imagine the effective use of anchoring!

Hope it helps

Hi Robert,

I use anchoring in my smoking cessation, the same way as Richard described, and I add, the anchoring to let go from any urge to smoke, I say as soon as you feel those urges.... you will squeeze your index finger to your thumb, and it will manifest to your physical body and will pass and feeling calm and relax from any habit or emotional feelings that use to trigger them to smoke...
I also use anchoring with other sessions, it depends what, as long it is appropriate, I see it as a plus.

I have learned the anchoring from my smoking secession classes, with John Melton, but other then that I didn't hear it anywhere but I have used it many time, especially for exams.
