I have no idea why I am here? But, could someone tell me if hypnosis could help me with certain issues? I came across a link to this site and was just recently thinking of trying hypnosis to deal with a few issues that seem to keep popping up. I have been on a self-improvement cruisade for a year or so now, reading a lot of books, articles, etc. I am doing great but the other day I had an incident with road rage! A woman cut me off and instantaneously I got really mad, even before I knew it, I sort of gave her the finger. I felt the adrenalin rush come so quickly, it was over before I had time to think about it. I was so embarrassed after I felt terrible about it for days. So I figure that before I may have gotten mad but never really thought much about it but now I rarely get that way and when I do I feel so awful. I now know that I have some underlying issues with self-control which I was wondering if hyponosis could help? Another aspect is that I wanted to take Tai Chi classes and when I went to the beginners class I got so stressed out trying to follow the moves that I didn't go back. Ha, Tai Chi is suppose to relax you! So these issues don't come out in my day to day life but they pop up unexpectly which I think is based in fear of some sort. So can hyponis deal with issues like this? I know some of my anger is from my upbringing because I was raised in a what I call an "Italian like" family, in that we expressed our emotions and there was often tempers flying!

Yes hypnosis is a great way to deal with underlying anger challenges, as well as to start understanding the emotions in general. Although frustrating at times they are there to serve a purpose, generally they just alert us that we are not thinking in alignment with what we truly want. If you haven‘t yet read the book The New Earth by Echart Tolle you might allow yourself to do so, he is really great at explaining just that. Give yourself credit in being aware that you have emotions of anger and refocus on your positive intentions in life.

Scott, thanks so much for replying. I really do appreciate you taking the time. That is the problem, I have read The New Earth, and The Power of Now! Plus many others (one of my favorites was "A return to Love" Oh, my, I even joined in on the ten week course with Oprah on The New Earth too! God, I must need a major tune-up! I understand the concepts but as I said, it seems to happen without thinking, just automatically. Which is why I think hypnosis might help.
But that is enough about that....I don't want to get too caught up in it. Yes, I am thankful that I am actually aware of this. Like I said before I may have done this and thought it was normal. Now I am aware of it and feel terrible, which I think is somewhat of a good thing (maybe).
So thank you so much for responding. I am nervous about trying hypnosis and of course no one I know can give me insight into what to expect. I sort of know the person I am going to have do the hynosis and am a little embarrassed to let her know that I actually have these anxieties.
But on another note: do you know if anyone has ever dealt with genetically transferred anxieties? Not past lives but anxieties that are passed on from parents. I just watched an excellent PBS special on stress and there was a small segment about war babies from Holland. Even before I watched this I knew a mother could pass on illness to a child but how about the stress of a father? I read a book "Quantum Healing" by Deepok Chopra and he mentions some personality factors being present in DNA, like stress.
So seeing people can go to past lives could they go to genetically imposed thoughts?
This is just a thought I have had recently, after the road rage incident.Hope this isn't too much. I know you are probably very busy.
Thanks again.
Sincerely
Rose

Rose,
I just wanted to reply to your idea of "genetically passed on anxieties." For many of my clients that have come in for emotional control issues it initially seems to them as though their problem has been passed on from generation to generation. In fact, it never has been as they get to discover. The mind has learned to respond in ways that have been handed down from generation to generation. And what the mind has learned can be unlearned and more desirable responses established. A competent hypnotist will guide you through this process.

If you are nervous about trying hypnosis you might find it helpful to download the free report "How to Choose a Hypnotist" that you can find on my site www.ask-the-hypnotist.com. It will help you find the best person for you to work with in your area.

Be encouraged. Once we start looking we always find a way to move on to the next step!

Conrad, thanks. My goal in life is to be a better person, so improving self-control and self-acceptance are important to me. I consider myself one brick in the wall to building a better world. So if hypnosis can help with these issues, I would like to check it out. I feel that all the trying I have been doing still seems to be tarnished with something beyond my grasp, so maybe this is the route to go for me at this stage.
Thanks again,
Rose

All of life sees the majority of us evolving.
Most of us, our own harshest and most judgmental critics.
I would suggest exploring self-forgiveness, as a goal[utting love in it's place. If you are doing the very best you can, moment to moment, and being the best you can, then life is like learning to walk as a small child, stumbling and landing on you butt eventually happens less, the walking becomes more natural on it's own.

Hi Rose,

I aggree with Dr Chropra: How we cope with stress can be in our DNA-

The great news is that DNA is not static, DNA is bio-engineered to learn and change -- that's what enables us to survive "in the ever changing world that we live in"

There are many exceptional resources on this amazing website waiting for you to discover them-- Enjoy the journey....

Thank you Michael.
I found Chopra's concepts interesting. It got me to thinking about stress and DNA. My father was a WW2 vet and he was wounded several times which effected him for the rest of his life. I am the youngest in the family, last of the baby boomers! But I think he suffered from frustration and anger. Some from the war and some from the reality of life after the war. I am a lot like him, very loving but have moments when the adrenalin rushes. So this could be partly from enviornment, (his anger outbursts when pushed or cornered). I use to say that you couldn't kill my father but you could sure piss him off!
Then I got to thinking that maybe the potential for this adrenalin rush could be genetic. Maybe it's generational, he could have been prone to this short temper.
I think it would be interesting to do a study on child from men who had trama.
But I feel I need to go deeper into this other than being positive and trying to deal with something that seems to be somewhere where I can't quite get to. So I am hoping the hypnosis may help.
Thank you again and I think I will find some interesting resources here!

Thank you, wise words!

These are very wise words from John, and it is about lettling go, self forgiveness, and learning to just let it be... Read my post on Healthy belief systems, as we often act in a fight or flight response this tends me mean we sence a danger or something to benifit from... Emotions are indactors that move us to either react in a negative or positive way.. But if we stop for a momment and question what are the benifits/dangers and work it out we may find that our intial response was instinct... This is completly normal, but it is easier to calm the emotions which lead to actions if we stop and think ok.... Why do I feel this way? what are the possible situations that may occure, am I in danger, or can I use this as benificial experince.... Hypnosis can also help to calm yourself in situations you find you are more likely to lash out ex, giving a bad driver the finger. Instead take a deep breath, and say ok, did Their bad driving cause any danger to me? no and then let it go at that.... It's definatly easier said than done, but even the smallest improvements over time make a difference.

All the best
Amanda

Amanda thank you. Maybe sometimes we expect too much, too soon. I am starting to realize how much of a challenge this is! Change can happen over night but it can also be hard work and timely.
Thanks again.
