HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

I would like to have a web page done advertising my hipno skills. Could somebody advice me of some nice pages around so that I can get ideas? Bear in mind that this will be done for Mexico City only so there is no risk of either competition or copycat situations. Actaully, this page...hypnothoughts is quite attractive but I would like to see how the experts advertise.

Thank you

Hi Hugh,

I tried to learn Joomla a few months before I started on Wordpress, and I just couldn't get my head around it. I have a web designer friend who started in Joomla himself, and has recently switched over to Wordpress as his CMS of choice because it's a lot easier on his clients.

I sorta kinda understand PHP and CSS (enough to be dangerous) and I'm just getting to the point where I can tweak things I want to change in a theme. I have a long way to go on that score, though.

I wonder about HTML5 too. I think it almost has to be better than Flash. I find Flash incredibly overused and annoying, and more often than not, when I have a browser crash it's because of Flash. Apple won't support it on the iPhone, and I can't say that I blame them. It's bad enough when it crashes your browser, but who wants to reset their phone 5 times a day?

I agree with you Kathleen, Wordpress is wonderful for newbies and very easy to use on an ongoing basis, I myself though have been heavily leaning toward Joomla ever since it replaced Mambo as my CMS of choice, Both systems use plug ins as thier "band aids" of choice to add new features. The increased use of Multi media seems to be taking things in a new direction though and I am wondering what new things will happen with CMS systems as HTML5 begins to provide viable options to Flash animation techniques,

Well time for me to chip in.

I have never been very proactive in self promotion, and tend to wait until I need to do something before I get off my backside and act. So consequently after thirty years as a hypnotherapist, and spurred on by this thread, Yesterday I finally created my first website designed to hopefully get me a few new clients over the coming year.

My friend Gary gave me a bit of help, and within a few hours we had a fairly simple uncomplicated website up and running using wordpress. and linked it up to a blogsite we set up a month or so back to follow Gary's weight reduction project.

I am sure it will get quite a few tweeks and expand a bit over the coming months, but I do like the idea of keeping it simple, and just giving basic information rather than a big sales pitch.

I would welcome any feedback and particularly positive suggestions about what could make it more effective.
corrections on spelling and grammer ect also happily accepted.

Love and hugs,

Congratulations on joining the web, Fable!! I'm sure your website will flourish and grow, along with your practice. If I may suggest, please include a bit more of your own unique personality because that truly is the strength of what you offer and what we have come to treasure!

Hi Gus,

Here's a great list of resources if you want to give Wordpress a try. New To Wordpress - Where To Start

One of the great things about WP is that you can choose to let WP host it (sign up at www.Wordpress.com) or you can get your own hosting and URL and host it yourself. If Wordpress hosts your site, your URL will be http://yoursitename.wordpress.com, unless you pay a nominal fee to show your URL instead of one with "wordpress" in the address. (However, my thinking is that if you're wiling to pay for a URL of you own, you're better off to get hosting through a commercial firm because then you'll have access to better customer support than you can get through Wordpress.)

I practiced on a free Wordpress-hosted site first, then got my own hosting. Many of the larger hosting companies will do the installation for you. Here's the list of hosts recommended by WordPress.

I like Doteasy.com, personally. They have an unlimited plan for $9.95 a month, and they will do the whole installation for you.Their customer support folks are very friendly and tolerant of newbies. :) It's basically "web hosting for dummies."

Once you have WP installed, you can install plugins with literally 4 clicks. The hard part is deciding what plugins to use (there are thousands to choose from). Decide what functionality you want first, then find a plugin to give you that function.

Hope this helps!

Please check my website on weight control...give me your thoughts...although...it's in spanish but most of you are bilingual. However...I want to change this website from weight loss to an overall practice. I do have to promote myself since I have been doing therapy for free to anyone who'll let me for over a year, my results have been sometimes spectacular and now I want for the genral public to visit me. The weight loss program, though it is working, for one reason or other is not generating the ammounts of people I would like, and bear in mind this....Mexico has now beaten the US...yessssssssssssss We are now oficially the numeber one country in the world in OVERWEIGHT.....hurrah!!!!!!!

Hi Gus,

Your choice of plugins depends on what functions you want your blog/website to have. Here's the Plugins page at Wordpress.org.

The "theme" determines how your WP site will look. Plugins will determine what your WP site does (how it functions).

You might start by looking at the list of the most popular plugins to see what they do. They're probably the most popular for a reason. ;)

I disagree Scott. You have time for this you have time for a blog.

Hi Chasey

Blogs only work if you keep them up to date and post items frequently. Most professional blogs that are earning the owner big money will have behind the scene, an army of writers supplying several posts a week of interesting material.

If your busy in full time practice or work you just don't have the time for keyboard jockeying. And to honest very few people can construct interesting reading material, or we would all be hight earning authors.

Warmest Regards

Scott

Hi

I've got to agree with Jon, here. Although Scott makes a valid point about frequent posting, which means that you're constantly tending your blog, you don't need an army of copywriters to have a successful one. It is a matter of degrees. I just started my first blog at the end of last October. You can go and see it at www.ChampionMindSkills.com. It's also a WordPress blog. I am not a programmer nor am I a website designer and I can't afford to hire one either. You can definitely do it on your own and there is a great deal of support with the WordPress platform. People will surely get to know you, but it won't happen overnight.

Good luck.

Ahhhh you are a website designer. Well that explains your stance. You don't need 'quality articles'. You just need to tell people what you do. And to tell them about you a little. If you can't write use a service like instantAudioCreator and embed the resulting audio file into your blog. I know several peole using face book and even the profile page from this group who are successfully getting clients.

And if you can't write a decent little piece then how on earth do you think it possible to comun icate sufficiently to hypnotise?

There is a shift in the psychology of the web now for social and networking not just for personal but for professional uses.

I use WordPress sooooo easy.

Hi Chasey,

There is a humongous difference between, posting a few lines of shite on a forum and constructing 2 to 3 quality articles of around 500 to 1000 words.

Some people can do that, but in my experience as a web-designer most rely on copyrighters or canned material from online article libraries.

Warmest Regards

Scott

Agreed Scott. since we got rid of our catalogue style site and turned over to a more showy but basically blog based site linking with facebook our sales and optins have shot up. A simple little video, this is who I am, is worth a million copywriters in my experience.

Scott Brown said:
Well Chasey,

Thats where we will disagree and thats where you want to brush up on your marketing psychology because unfortunately people in general do judge a book by its cover, what you put out on the net gets associated to you, period.

Warmest Regards

Scott
