Hi, I am wondering if anyone has worked with ALS. I have a new client who was told by a fellow patient that hypnosis was help him keep his disease stable. I am hoping to learn anything that others has used to assist clients with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). Thaks very much, Lynn

Sorry, it's not hypnosis, but check this out: lowdosenaltrexone.org Not a commercial site, not a product, not mumbo-jumbo, just help for those with degenerative diseases.
When I met Emmy award winning actor Michael Zaslow - ALS had laid waste to his body. He wrote me note saying that he wished that he had AIDS... I wrote back: "???" He wrote that he had heard that I was helping people survive AIDS and NO ONE SURVIVES ALS!!! I looked him in the eye and wrote back: "Perhaps you will be the first" It brought a tear to his eye and we discussed how I could help him help himself.

I helped him to focus on what he could do and what he still could enjoy instead of focusing on what he lost or the horror that he was facing... I taught him how to move into resource states and we created a state where he could appreciate what he lost from the point of view that he could still appreciate all that he had had.

Michael lived a full, active, pleasurable and satisfying life -- even though his physical condition continued to deteriorate daily during the last year of his life... Several weeks after Zaz's death - I got a call and was told I was mentioned in his last interview (Soap Opera Weekly) - Asked how he dealt with the intense fear and stress he answered: "I have a secret weapon - Michael Ellner and QUANTUM FOCUSING"

My advice is keep hope alive -- Joy, pleasure and satisfaction promote healing and survival and play up the benefits and advantages of the program that you are offering as a first class self-healing protocol -- Reducing fear, tension and discomfort reduces stress and reducing stress slows down the progression of all health challenges. Explain that our bodies are not able to heal or restore metabolic balance when we are in stressed states and our inner doctors do so automatically when we are in "rest and digest states"
Hi Michael, I think the most important thing to start is exactly what you have stated That our bodies are not able to heal or RESTORE as the client so desires, until we are feeling calm and relaxed. I received another very good comment from Cynthia Cameron a clinical hypnotherapist and diagnosed with ALS herself. She sugggested that we also focus on blood circulation. As a person who has managed to slow progression she is now focusing on regeneration. The other point she made was the very imporant element of dealing with the shock of diagnosis and the neurologists "energy projection" of a limited life span. I think this is a great place to start. I now am just looking for basic physiological effects of the disease so I can better enable my client to form healing imagery and self suggestions. It is my hope, that since not a lot of information is out there regarding ALS, my discussions will become a beginning of a resource. My Mom has post-polio syndrome another syndrome that involves neurological degeneration. I would really like to see more attention paid to addressing some of these issues with hypnosis. I became involved with hypnosis because my Father-in-law had phantom limb pain and hypnosis was the one way to mitigate the discomfort.
I love your "quantum focusing" I purchased the original publication and have used many of the techniques with many of my clients on varied issues. I also very much appreciate your participation on the IMDHA forum. Your individual perspective and support is valued. Warm Regards, Lynn
Thanks for the kind words Lynn-

Cynthia's advice reminded that I forget to mention that I guided Michael Z. through a "hypnotic de-briefing" with the suggestion that doing so would neutralize all of the negative input that he recieved from his neurologist when he got his diagnosis/prognosis -- We did a modified emotional detox --
Michael,

I really enjoy all your post. I was wondering if you have any books published. If you do, what would you recommend. Do you have a site that list any publications and give a synopsis of what is contained in each book?

Chris
Hi Chris, sorry no books.I do belong to the IMDHA, which is a great resource. You may consider joining thier mentorship group to ascertain new hypnosis information on many topics. Best Regards, Lynn
Thanks Chris-
