Are "Voice Rolls" effective, and if so, how to do them?

I've heard this technique mentioned, where Dick Sutphen states that many preachers use "voice rolls" as one of several techniques to influence an audience:

It seems hard to find any website mentioning a "voice roll," other than those quoting the exact same person and situation as that above. There was this, however:

It seems strange to me that there is so little on this subject. If it were actually effective, it seems there would be far more information about it, or perhaps there's another term for it.

Is this technique truly effective?

And if so, how do you learn to do it?

Thanks!

Chad,

Those who suggest that such techniques are used by preachers to send religious audiences into a trance do not understand much about religious audiences.

Preachers use certain tempos, sometimes, for all sorts of reasons. Usually this has far more to do with rhythm, tradition and avoiding monotony than trance.

This is no different that the cadence or rythem used by ANY professional while working, ranging from a sales person to a traditional hypnotist to a school teacher.  Sure taken as a whole with the other factors, Sutphen makes a point, but to try to isolate any specific value or intention in the technique in and of itself would be useless.    As a whole, when combined with other factors, these unintentional techniques may be fruitful, but again, in and of itself its meaningless.   Kind of like have a tire wont't take you down the road, you need the other 4,382 pieces of a car to drive....
So it sounds like the consensus is that "voice rolls" are not anything to be concerned about. Thanks!
It could be used as a nice little anchor though, lol.
Good example of such "techniques" you can see in the movie "Marjore".
