Are you talking to your clients for free with Skype?
I have been asked today if a health professional should be using skype for her business?
My answer is a huge - YES!
We suggest that every Health & Wellness professionals should get a free skype account
Why should I use Skype?
It is great for your practice because:
1. The basic service is free.
2. Many online business people use it.
3. For a small fee, I can add Skype to phone capability.
4. It gives another dimension to communicating with clients
5. I can use Skype for conference calls.
6. Video (web) callsare great when you can't see clients face to face in your office.
What Is Skype?
Skype is an Internet Phone System that allows you to use your computer to call any landline or cell phone in the world.
Plus you can call any other Skype user from anywhere around the world for FREE.
Therefore no matter where you live you could call us at IntoFocus and speak to us for hours and it won’t cost you a cent.
All you need to do is download Skype onto your computer. If your computer does not have an inbuilt microphone, you will need to get one.
Where do I get it from?
1. Go to www.skype.com
2. The Skype Home Page will open up. Go to the menus at the top of the page & click Downloads
3. Click the ” Download Now” Green Button
4. Once download is complete then please follow the “Set Up Wizard“. The “Set Up Wizard” will guide you through the rest of the installation.
5. You will need to pick a user name for yourself - mine is intofocus (I chose my business name not a personal name as there a carolydean already!)
6. Once your account is launched click the “Contact” tab and insert “intofocus” into Skype Name and click on “find”
7. Once you find “intofocus” (Full Name - Carolyn Dean) then click on “Add Skype Contact“
What else do I need?
You can use Skype using your PCs built in speaker & microphone but on occasions the reception is not very good. I would therefore highly recommended buying a headset.
I personally have a Logitech headset which are USB connected which I bought fairyl cheaply from my local IT shop.
You may also choose to hook up a web cam as well, the person you are talking to will be able to see you.
Here are the options:
Headset with Boom Microphone:
Any headset with a microphone that has a USB plug so you can plug into your computer will work. This does not need to be expensive and you can buy your headset directly from Skype or you can find one at your local electronic/computer store
Skype Phone:
You can purchase a USB Phone or Skype Phone as well.
Make sure it is a USB that plugs right into your computer.
Be aware that some are like portable phones (similar to real phones) and these will cost more. You just need one to go through your computer.
Once again you can buy your headset directly from Skype or you can find one at your local electronic/computer store.

Many many thanks for your comments. Your comments reinforce that fact that many practitioners in Australia are still technologically behind the times on comparison to the UK and USA.
I am genuinely interested in finding out how people are using skype to speak to clients & issues successes they have had with it.
I have deleted links to my website & duplicate posts as this is in no way meant to be spam - just meant to be useful information for people that didn't know.

I have a number of clients who originally came into my practice in Alabama but work overseas or who travel as much as I do. Since sessions were haphazard due to scheduleing we now have our sessions using skype. I'm planning to relocate to another state soon and will continue to support my long term clients here using Skype. Personally, I don't like doing telephone sessions but Skype allows me to SEE them and them to SEE me. Also, now that it is summer and college is out of session, my daughter is still able to keep tabs on Lover Boy in Australia on a daily basis. And, the world shrinks some more.

It is also great to see that your daughter has found love in beautiful Australia!!!! You are quite correct with your statement about the shrinking world. It really makes you wonder what we will experience in the next 20 years in terms of doing business & in our children's love lives!

My thought skype is probably good but i wonder if there is problems with the computer line don't you as a caller get dropped and wonder if your in a conversation that is important that is taking a risk or is skype a dependable service......
Just a thought...

I personally have had tons of problems with skpe being used as a conference call facility with people dropping out. I think it i was a client i wouldn't be too impressed if it happened in the middle of a session.
Does this only happen in Australia (where our broadband seems to be less than impressive) or globally?

Have Hypnotized on Skype [colleagues] for over 2 years now, and used it to call the US from Manchester last January for pennies rather than dollars to let family know I was
OK. I stil have over $ 8 credit out of the $ 10 I spent left, those calls would have run big bucks if done more traditionally.
