Perhaps a confidence man need not tell you how good he is? Perhaps a confident man just knows he is good, and you think so too.

Perhaps an arrogant man thinks he's good, regardless of whether he is, whilst not caring whether anyone else is good or bad?
Or is at CON man who tells you good he is and a truly confident man assumes you will figure it out for yourself?
Hmmm...is that capital "H" intentional...or not?! This could just be a trick! :)
I'm with Henxy,

Both boasting and bashing others seem pretty arrogant and lacking in self esteem to me.
Okay - the meaning of the statement is in the result it gets.

WHEN ASKED... a confidant man tells you how good he is if it will benefit you in such a way as to raise your self esteem and benefit you in some way. An arrogant man does the other thing.

Kelly, Capitalization is Always Deliberate.

Ian, that's rubbish. If that were so then all the great thought leaders of our times would have destroyed themselves rather than say "I've had this idea and I think it's good."

Richard surely not all telling people you are good at something, such as telling them what qualifications you hold, is boasting? Or shows a lack of self esteem?
I,m with Richard ... Who is with Henxy .. who probably noticed the capital H also

Jonathan,

Surely, you are right in that not all statements of accomplishment and self value are boasting. Most people can discriminate the difference fairly easily.

Just as all statements relating the lack of value in others are not bashing.

It was your statement that started the discussion. Of course confidence and arrogance CAN be totally unrelated to either of the propositions you made.

Is there a point to your post or is it more like a free fortune cookie message?

A confident man except criticism and is willing to listen to those who have different opinion or advice from his own and an arrogant man is unable to accept responsibility and criticism.

Yeah, I'm not arrogant. I'm just naturally perfect, and I'll be happy to listen to your misguided objections just so you can feel good about yourself. See? Just pure confidence there.

Anyway, I don't find it useful to define arrogance, so don't expect any serious contributions from me. ;)
lol Jan, you already have :)
All the best :)
