Bring CD's with a sample of your work. Make a ten minute recoding that just guides people through a natural process of using hypnosis and feeling good. Label them with your name and contact info. It is much more effective than a business card or brochure, becasue people will not throw them away....
Give the away to everyone you can.

The only hypnotist at a hypnosis expo? hmmm...

At any rate, I concur with Richard. Make a recording to make the people feel good, as only a hypnotist can. Our strength, is in our unique abilities. This is what people come to us, and remember us for.

Let me correct myself. It is not a hypnosis expo per say. I am just the only hypnotist there. There will be other professionals who work in the field of personal development and relaxation.

Richard has hit the nail on the head. Fantastic advice.

As one of my mentors (Gary Bencivenga) likes to say "make your marketing useful". When you do this, people will keep the item because it adds value to their life.

Most people make brochures that are just oversized business cards -- boring. (see my article Your Business Card is Boring to understand why this is a bad strategy)

Somewhere I have an article about how to maximize value from time spent at trade shows but I can't find it right now. If I can remember where it is, I'll put the link here for you.

One tip... Don't put your business name as the headline for your booth on a banner. Instead put a key benefit they will get from visiting your booth/table in big block letters that can be read from a good distance away. Put your name and/or website in smaller letters.

Example: Instead of Herb's Hypnosis, put "Relax Your Mind & Feel Great!" or "Instant Stress Reduction NOW - Find Out How" Or "Free Instant Stress Reduction CD"

You get the idea.

I would ask them to give me their contact info for follow up if they seem the least bit interested in what you offer. Most purchasing decisions happen after the first contact. Follow up is essential.


I just realized I made an assumption that you are trying to get clients.

Strategy would be the same, but the content different if you are looking for students for your courses or are trying to get inside of corporations to teach courses etc.

The most brilliant idea that I am currently aware of is raffling away prizes in exchange for info. Interested parties become future leads. Free sessions, i.e. your raffle prizes, can convert many times into clients and/or referral generators.
