Hi all,

A friend of mine has a son aged 7 who has ADD, his doctor wants to prescribe him with Ritalin.

The mother is worried about side effects but she is also worried that they may move him into a special school if he doesn't take it.

I'm sure that I have read somewhere that hypnosis can help with this, does anybody know more about it?

Any info would be greatly appreciated,

Chris.

You did good Chris,

Disclaimer: What follows is my self-educated opinion -It is a Non-Medical and Non-Psychological Opinion as I am not legally qualified to offer medical or psychological opinions

For the record, unless you are a licensed health care provider you can NOT legally "treat" ADD/ADHD" or any medical or psychological condition unless hypnosis has been prescribed or is under a licensed health care provider's supervision.

Having said that, I have lots of experience helping parents and children who have been labled ADD/ADHD,

The first thing I do is offer the parents additional information like you did.

If they are interested - I offer them an alternative view: In my self-educated and "non-expert" view ADD/ADHD are dangerous medical constructs that psychologize and medicalize childhood behaviors and the drugs that "treat" ADD/ADHD are a serious threat to a childs health. I also warn them that parents who question the school's experts about drugging their children often face losing their children or having their children put in "special" schools and advise them to seek medical doctors who offer nutritional or behavorial approaches to ADD/ADHD to establish that their child is recieving care for their condition -- Often the school officals back down after getting a doctor's note saying the child is in their care.

Although we can not legally treat ADD/ADHD - any hypnotist worth his or her salt can reduce or eliminate the in-school behaviors that are the symptoms of ADD/ADHD and help the child save their creativity and be more effective in the class room settings.

Best,
Michael E.
Hey Chris
I have over the years worked with numerous kids teaching them self-hypnosis and how to use hypnosis to focus and calm themselves. Two other tools is Dr. Rayma Sommer's ChiQ and The Journey to the Wild Divine - both are great for kids & adults.
