can anyone help? i know how to record on audacity so that i can hear 1 voice in my right ear and another in my left at the same time BUT is it possible to record one track so that it keeps moving round from side to side rather than being static?

You need to use a 'pan envelope' to set the points back and forth. I'd recommend varying your percentages, by that I mean don't go all the way to 0% on one side and 100% on the other, but to be a little dynamic in your settings. Play around with it. Feel free to ask follow up questions,

It takes a bit of patience....
but a lot of things are possible.

First split the stereo track into two separate tracks.
(click on "audio track£ to the left of screen, for options)
so that you can adjust the envelpoes separately.
Create the envelopes for the left track...
raise volume when you want voice in the left ear.
and lower or slience when you want it in right ear.

then select right track
and make opposing envelopes.
( making it louder when the left is quieter)
it makes a pretty picture.

Do gentle transitions to get a smothe efffect,
that apears like you are walking
left and right across the room.

Practice with a one minute recoding that says things like:

now I am moving to the left...

and now I am moving to the right...

and now I am standing in the middle...

Make the sound match what you are saying.

You don't have to do it, but ..
for neatness,
after you have finished..
Return it to a stereo track.

Have fun
thanks for both suggestions-will have a play. at least i have some idea where to start now
oooo - have had a play--got it, just needs tweaking but my head is spinning from the wandering sound from the headphones. many thanks--hoping to get some hyp cd's done now
Glad you got it!

Fable- you can create a pan envelope the same way as you did with the volume envelope and it's half the work (I'm almost certain you can do that in audacity, I use 4 different sound programs and I'm pretty sure they all have it). I may be wrong on that, but it's worth checking out.

Thanks Scott,

I will check it out sometime next week... got a very busy weekend ahead, with circus stuff, and I am Multi-multi tasking today.

Need to go and have Lie down PMR session before picking up Joey, and packing the car.

LOve and hugs,

Fable
