You might want to check out the group, Download MP3 Sessions.
I'm working with an experientially gifted music teacher whom I hypnotize using suggested background music to involve her whole person in the induction and the session which follows. It's new, but it seems to have some interesting possibilities.

I know an experientially gifted music teacher who has an interest in drumming. Two days ago, I improvised a musical induction, using the elements of the Best Me Technique as a guide and leaving it up to her to determine its properties as, with considerable elaboration, I suggested a drumming experience which would fill "body, heart, mind, and soul," and transport her to an entirely new dimension of reality. You could then add specific suggestions with this suggested music as a background, or suggest that the music itself would bring about the results you desire..
The type of musical imagery that would work best probably depends on each individual's preferences and cognitive style; but we already talk about "the music of the spheres." Maybe this could be it.

Thanks --I will check it out. sounds great!
Permalink Reply by Bernard Rapol on February 2, 2012 at 9:37am I never use music. Just voice is more neutral. Every client is different. A person can love or hate a music piece. If he hates it or it disturbs him: no hypnosis. Only way this would work pretty good is to ask the client for a piece of music he knows and likes.
Otherwise, I find it is often shooting yourself in the foot.
Greetings,
Bernard
Permalink Reply by Michelle Braun on February 2, 2012 at 9:52am I frequent powwows just for that reason. Sitting back under the socal night sky with the perfume of sage filling the air and the singing and drumming from the drum circles easily induces a trance. Add into the factor the elaborately dressed dancers and well...heavenly!

I agree with Bernard, I don't use music. When they have worked well with just my voice then the take hme cd will be listened to and enable ongoing assistance to the client. People have different music choices so why try I guess what they will like??
Permalink Reply by Richard Nongard - NLPBoard.com on February 4, 2012 at 8:46pm I *always* use music (Dan Kern's) and I speak over a microphone into the mixer so they hear me and the music through the headphones. I would never go back to doing it the old way.
Permalink Reply by Bernard Rapol on February 5, 2012 at 1:10am For myself (I use selfhypnosis every day), I do not use music. If you have a tape, then it means you will be using that tape a lot. I can listen to a piece of music 10 times, 15 times, but after 20 times the same tune (even if it's the most beautiful piece of music), I am getting bored.
And you know boredom means annoyance. When you're annoyed, hypnosis moves out of the house. Your conscious mind comes in, cluttering the athmosphere "god, again that tune, no no no".
Music would be good for inductions, IF you have the perfect tune for that client, do not use music YOU like, the client may hate it, and for not too repeated tapes.
That's only my experience. Some people will think otherwise, some will recognize this.
Greetings,
Bernard
I appreciate all the imput...especially the source for good background sound. Currently checking those sources out thanks to all of you.On another note I do self hypnosis daily and don't use music. Indeed, silence plays well.
However with new clients I like to use sound with alpha/theta waves threaded through to bring clients into relaxation mode faster/easier. My "Mindspa" soundtrack has that effect. I simply want to hear something NEW.
Ultimately my game plan is always to teach them how to get there.
