Benefits of a daily practice (A challenge with a prize!)

Hello all,

Following on from Richard's posting regarding Progressive Muscle Relaxation, I am inspired to set a challenge.

One of the recurring issues when something is useful, (and needed), is that people use a technique once or twice, and then lapse. a form of self sabotage?

A one off session of deep relaxation using progressive muscle relaxation is useful in itself, but does not usually sort out what is essentially a chronic problem of retained unneccesary tension (which is endemic in our society and can negatively affect every area of our functioning). If the technique is adopted as a daily practice for an extended period of time (much the same as a regular workout, or meditation practice), the benefits become more and more profound, after a few weeks, and then there is continued progressive improvement in all areas... with or without hypnosis.

When used with concomitant hypnosis/psychotherapy, the benefits of the generalised letting go of physical (and mental) tension can be emphasised, and built upon, clearing the way for more specific positive change suggestions to be more effective.

I wonder how many readers of this forum, and their clients commit themselves to this form of regular practice, and what excuses/rationalisations the others come up with for not sticking with this proven process.

So here is the challenge: I have put my half hour MP3 session of this deep relaxation technique on the audio player on my page.

Who is willing to use this once a day for a month, and report back here on their experience, and progress. (including what got in the way at times.)

There will be an (as yet unspecified) prize for all who take part.

One of the most effective ways to be an effective hypnotist and to develop confidence is to practice what we preach. When I meet people who have training but lack the confidence to hypnotize people, they are always people who learned techniques that have never applied the principles to themselves...

Yes, I agree Richard Hypnotist don't realize they also need to do self-hypnosis on themselves as well to get the full effect of confidence in order to do what they do. I myself use it in order to gain what I need to do my shows because sometimes it gets a bit draining as same as clients. Thank you for sharing Fable...Good Post!

Thanks for the 'heads up' Fable, I have not been checking in here for a while, it is good to be reminded.

As you know, I have used your progressive relaxation reccording a good few times over the years, As did my father who you helped to stop smoking over twenty years ago. I have noticed great benefits when I have practiced regularly, but I don't think I have ever kept it up for a whole month every day. Always something gets in the way or distracts me after a week or so.

I will commit myself to this challenge, and happilly report back.

P.S. I notice it is sill exactly the same recording from many years back, I am surprized you have not re-recorded it by now.

Hi Fable,
I'm already doing a daily practice of 7th Path, and before that meditation; however, I'm willing to add the PMR into my dialy routine for a month and report back. Thanks to you to and Richard for the gifts.
I find this community to be one of the most helpful and giving I've ever encountered......how refreshing!

Thanks, Fable. I'll do it, too.

I had been doing daily self-hypnosis and meditation until December when I took a month long trip. Since returning home, I've been pretty stressed and out of my habits. This is a great way to help me get back into my routine and enjoy another's help!

Working with the release of retained unnecessary tension is not at all difficult to improve upon.
Once you have them Hypnotized ask their subconscious mind to forgive, release, heal and let go of whatever triggers, thoughts, feeling, patterns, action, reactions, or falsely assumed precepts they are using to trigger this, from places both known and unknown to them.
Ask their subconscious mind to trigger deep and slow relaxation breath as a response to stressors, while mentally stepping back just a but and detaching from the "stage play" they are participating in, and relax into getting mightier than they have been in ,now done and previous released chapters of their lives, as a regular memorized pattern of this reaction shift takes place.
Ask their muscles to memorize what deep relaxation feels like so this space/place is an oasis of energy shift whenever needed.
So what did I win again? LOL

Count me in as well. I like so many other's I'm sure have good intentions but then something else gets thrown at me and I put it to the side so perhaps this will give me a bit more "incentive" shall I say.

Thanks to all who have already said they would take part. feedback in this discussion thread, on how it is going over the month would be very welcome. Even if all you say is that you started off with good intentions, and then lapsed after a few days... you will still qualify for a prize at the end of the months challenge.

The prize is unconditional... ie. you get it for taking part regardless of how well you do, and even if you don't get round to giving much feedback.

I can't speak for Richard Nongard, but I imagine that he had the same intention with his prize.

Fine words butter no parsnips here.
The challenge is to establish a practice of using this particular (non hypnotic) technique for a month.

So although your suggestion is a valid aproach for some clients, using hypnosis.

As you have not commited to to join in the challenge, good try but no coconut.
