Benefits of a daily practice (A challenge with a prize!)

Hello all,

Following on from Richard's posting regarding Progressive Muscle Relaxation, I am inspired to set a challenge.

One of the recurring issues when something is useful, (and needed), is that people use a technique once or twice, and then lapse. a form of self sabotage?

A one off session of deep relaxation using progressive muscle relaxation is useful in itself, but does not usually sort out what is essentially a chronic problem of retained unneccesary tension (which is endemic in our society and can negatively affect every area of our functioning). If the technique is adopted as a daily practice for an extended period of time (much the same as a regular workout, or meditation practice), the benefits become more and more profound, after a few weeks, and then there is continued progressive improvement in all areas... with or without hypnosis.

When used with concomitant hypnosis/psychotherapy, the benefits of the generalised letting go of physical (and mental) tension can be emphasised, and built upon, clearing the way for more specific positive change suggestions to be more effective.

I wonder how many readers of this forum, and their clients commit themselves to this form of regular practice, and what excuses/rationalisations the others come up with for not sticking with this proven process.

So here is the challenge: I have put my half hour MP3 session of this deep relaxation technique on the audio player on my page.

Who is willing to use this once a day for a month, and report back here on their experience, and progress. (including what got in the way at times.)

There will be an (as yet unspecified) prize for all who take part.

Love and hugs,

Fable

Hello Fable,

I have been enjoying your free MP3 recording now for several days and want to tell you how wonderful I feel! In the past, I have had to remind myself during the day to relax my jaw muscles as I gradually build up tension in that area. Yesterday I suddenly noticed that there WAS no tension; something I haven't experienced for many years. I am wondering if this is due to the specific facial and tongue relaxation instruction contained in your recording, or if it is an overall result of giving myself this gift daily...perhaps it's due to both!!

Anyway, thank you again for the gift. I am loving the results.

Best wishes,

Kelley

Thanks for the feedabck Kelly,
it is always appreciated.

That is exactly the sort of thing I would expect.

and I suspect that you are right,
in as much as the specific exercises
for the jaw, tongue, lips, throat, neck
would definately have that effect,
but the combined effect of the whole body relaxation,
lays the foundation for that to work well.

remember the knee bone's connected to the thigh bone...
the thigh bone's connected to the hip bone.
etc.

relaxation in one muscle group,
facilitates relaxation in all the other
connected muscle groups of the body

I look forward to hearing about further improvements over the coming weeks.

LOve and hugs,

Fable

Fable,

On days when the relaxation is deep, I feel pulses of muscle tension release. Sometimes the pulse is quite strong.

Of course, I did not know that the tension was there until the pulse. It surprises me as if someone had walked up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder.

Enjoy, Walt

this is a clear indication, of stored up tension,
that has been masked by you becoming so used to it that it feels normal.
the pulsing, is a release of tension (discharge)
allow it to happen, give it permission, and it will accelerate untill it has fully discharged itself.
although this can take some time.
your body will set its own limits on this discharge,
so even if it starts to feel like you are having an epilectic fit..
just allow it to happen.
it is a wholesome process.

I look forward to more feedback from you.

I do a psoas release exercise daily also. It has a similar effect but not as dramatic.

The ones from the relaxation travel from the pelvis to the shoulders.

I am assuming that you have lower back pain, or sciatica?
I would suggest continuing to do the psoas release exersice each day,
and then follow it directly with the progressive relaxation exercise.

you will get double the benefit.

Fable

Yes, spinal stenosis in L4/L5. Sciatica
After 18 months post op the pain is going away.

Oddly using hypnosis to reduce the pain or eliminate it for a period is making the pain go away totally. I did not expect that to happen.

So I wonder how it is going for those who are still using this process?

This might be a little belated, but I've been listening to the relaxation track since January 1st. Haven't missed a day yet.

I was just thinking, it's nice to go through the exercise every day, but what's even more important than that for me is that I've kept a commitment to myself.

Thanks Fable!

Fable,

Thanks for asking. It gives me pause to reflect. I've moved to doing my own progressive relaxation daily followed by my psoas release on most days. But my attention has slacked off. Maybe it's time to listen to the mp3.

I've stepped down on my pain meds and the body is feeling cranky. Tired The meds may have been covering something up. Time to listen to the body some more.

great idea Walt,

I have founbd myself in the past, that when I find something that really works/helps, it is very easy to find an excuse not to do it regularly.

Many people who have contributed to this thread, have indicated the same thing.

stick with the practice for a prolonged period, regardless of what seems to get in the way.

keep giving feedback folks!

Love and hugs,

Fable

You're so right, Fable! Isn't that weird? Once in a while I come up with something that works for me. At the time it seems like it'll always work, and I'm making progress toward a major goal.

But then I miss a day, or take a step back, then another, and I undo the good work.
