Hello ~

I am about to venture out and open an office.  I will be making brochures and a website soon.

One of the programs I am offering is Weight Loss.  Should I call it "Hypnosis for Weight Loss, or is that to woo woo for the common folk.  I was thinking what Scott mentioned on his conference call last Saturday.

I would like something contemporary and simple.

Suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gail,

I have noticed that the word 'hypnosis' is scary people in the UK so I use NLP in my title and programs. 'Hypno weight loss' might get people's attention.

I dont know if this is any help to you at all.

Hello Gail,

I prefer to use weight control as a title, but most of the clients I have had so far [ I haven't been doing this for very long] call it weight loss. Weight loss can suggest losing something. Weight control not only covers more issues concerning weight such as Anorexia and Bulimia, but also suggests greater autonomy for the client.
Hi Gail,

I think that "Hypnosis for Weight Loss" or "Lose Weight with Hypnosis" is they best way to go, unless you are working in the bible belt - in which case there is a built in resistance to any kind of self-help.

Note - It is true that some people may perfer "Imagery for Weight Loss" or "Visualizations for Weight Loss but most potential clients will be looking for hypnosis.

@ Andrew - When marketing, I believe that it is best to speak to weight loss because that's what most people want and what most people are looking for. Once they are in your office you can educate them about taking control of their weight and lives-

Dear Gail,

I use 'weight management' but agree that most clients tend to speak of 'weight loss', so perhaps it is wise to use the terms our clients use. Re 'hypnosis', I haven't found it a problem as most people I see/who call have done a bit of research on hypnosis before they come in. I've also got quite a bit of info on what it is and isn't on my website in an effort to reassure people who are just browsing.

My tuppence-worth, but I am still learning the ropes, so interested to hear others' views.

I prefer the notion of "shedding excess weight" rather than losing weight, if you are focusing specifically on weight loss.

People are inclined to become defensive at the suggestion of 'fat', 'overweight' etc., and the suggestion that they need to lose weight is somehow offensive when suggested by another and really seems to focus on guilt and expectation of others, and it can bring out lots of resistance, but in my mind, when you suggest they want to 'shed excess weight', it infers weight that is excess to their needs, rather than being something they possibly want to hang onto.

When you suggest shedding excess weight, it seems it is no where as offensive nor defense provoking, mind you, if regression to cause is the mandate, then maybe that can do it.
Hi Gail
I have been doing weight loss for over 14 years. I a with Michael on this one. People don't look for weight release or weight maintenance or weight control or shedding. You want to market weight loss - (not hypnosis). once they are in the door, then start educating them on the wording.

If we put our marketing hats on, I believe people want to buy some Weight Loss. So that is what I would sell them. When then are in the door, discuss methods. So whatever you pick, focus on what they want to buy right up front.
Paul McKenna is making millions with "I Can Make You Slim".

I know Paul would have spent a ridiculous amount of money on market research and focus group testing.

He says that they tried weight, thin, skinny and every other combination and 'Slim' won hands down.

I think it makes no sense at all to ignore what the market is buying by the bucket load.

The evidence is there, all you have to ask yourself is do you want advice from a world famous multi-millionaire or someone who sees three people a week?

IF I did this I know who I'd follow.
