Beta, Alpha, Theta. What is the most effective in your opinion

Hi All,

I wanted to open up a discussion on brainwaves, and what if any state of mind is the most effective (besides open minded).

I think generally if we were to compare, most hypnosis may occur in one or all of three states of mind, Beta, Alpha, and Theta, and sometimes four if they fall asleep. The Beta state where the client is fully awake and aware, which is great for pre-induction and interviewing, the Alpha state for light and mid level trance, and Theta for achieving somnambulism. Correct me if I am wrong.

From my experience most of my clients end up in the Alpha state (although I do not have the technology to confirm this), especially for the first session. Have you seen any real difference in depth of Hypnosis and effectiveness?

Also, have you noticed that deeper hypnotic trance is better for say, past life regression, regression therapy, and deep habits, where lighter hypnosis is best for weight loss, and fears?

I know that if the client is motivated and in the right state of mind, this discussion is moot, but I wanted to see if anyone has had experience studying depth versus effectiveness.

Also you don't have to directly answer any particular question, if you have some client stories or interesting facts please post them.

well you will experience all of these mesurements of brainwaves if you're dealing with more than them same likeness of situations, because it's not trance, or hypnosis that happens at any particular one, but the experience during that all and even unmeasurable brainwave occur.
I don't care about brain waves. In most cases you can't measure them anyway, and I find that the usual stuff like pain control and post-hypnotic suggestions works fine without ever mentioning trance, sleep and relaxation (which are usually associated with lower dominant brain wave frequencies).
I think you're doing yourself a disservice by attributing the effects (or efficacy) of hypnosis to something that is, in practice, that abstract. Why not simply think in terms of focus (or, if you prefer, trance) instead?
A lot of people are divided on the issues of brainwaves and hypnosis. I'm really curious to know what a persons brainwaves are when they are taking part in a waking hypnosis session. Personally I have found that using the alpha/theta range has helped me with self hypnosis recordings (11hz to like 6 hz?)

I was into the brain wave thing for a while. Learned all about it, experienced all the states, educated myself on it. I know for self-hypnosis I go (and teach) people to go into the alpha state as that is the best "altered" state when you really need to have conscious self-directing thought, such as in self-healing, stress relief, getting answers to questions from "upstairs", etc. Anything deeper is a bit more difficult to have this "interaction" with self. Like in Theta, it's deeper, and not as much conscious interaction can be accomplished without coming up to the alpha state (imo). Theta level is too deep to have much back and forth response with yourself. Now, if you are just listening to recordings (cd's), then it's fine to go into theta, as you are just following along and don't have to self-direct.

As far as a client, I get them so deep it probably is off the brainwave scale, so I don't worry much about it now. I do like to put a Theta tape on, however, in session. My favorite is Brain Sync's (www.brainsync.com) "Deep Insight". It's 60 minutes and it just seems to help the intial relaxing process. I enjoy listening to it myself and just spacing out, too.
Hi CindyLou,

I am interested when you say you get them so deep it is probably off the brainwave chart. Can you shed some light on your process? To learn is to grow, so I have been experimenting with light and deep states of Hypnosis for different issues, to see if there is any noticeable benefit to depth, lightness etc, and where they best fit into therapy.

With Ultra Height(tm), you get the client into sonnombulism (aka Delta, they say), then take them into coma, which is even deeper. Then you take them very high. I don't know if the coma state or UH has ever been tested for brainwave levels. (anyone know?) All I know for sure is most clients who have experienced regular hypnosis say that UH or what I do, Hypno-Healing - a combination of UH and energy healing - is much deeper than they have ever gone before. Thanks for asking, Sean!

Nothing subliminal. No words at all. Deep insight is simply nature sounds, a bit of music, all based in a "Theta" beat.

Hi CindyLou,
Was curious to know if "Deep Insight" has any spoken words or it is just subliminal music?
Cheers

I'm thinking I like Somnambalism the best.
