Doing Stage shows I am always looking for crazy new ideas. I love binds double binds and otherways to twist the mind. I am not a fan of mentalism simply because it is based most times on trickery, slight of hand, or plants. However I love mind games...

Here are a few.

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS.

Now count the F's in that sentence.
Do you know the answer?

Set up an audience by telling them to make a gun with their thumb and finger.. ask them to turn it into an ok sign and the look through it.. then tell them to follow your directions to the word... Place your own hand duplicating theirs on your cheek while telling them to place theirs on their chin. They will place their hand on their cheek even though you told them to put it on their chin..

(Jerry Valley was famous for both of these)

Here is my personal favorite and one of my own... This will also give you an idea of some of the things I am looking for...

Tell some one to hold something.. a business card of pen and look at it... then tell them to look at it and think of one word only.... the word is Try... spell the word in your head think of the letters now look at the pen and think of the word....
TRY TO DROP IT YOU CAN NOT.....
the vast majority will experience a bind strong enough to create a cataleptic reaction and the subject will be unable to drop the object...

This is my personal creation, feel free to use it just give credit...

Now with that said what binds or brain farts do you know or have created that cause a wow reaction?

Justin.

Justin,

Realizing that the conscious mind can only do one thing at a time, opens up a whole plethora of possibilities. When you have the conscious mind do something that makes it go internal to figure it out, bingo.. trance state.

A way that I wow em using this is as follows:

Since I don't do covert, I tell the subject that in a moment I will say a word that will hypnotize them and ask if it is okay. (A little expectancy never hurts either) If they say yes, then I tell them "Good, but first, lets find out a little about you. Tell me, what year were you in the 6th grade?"

When you see them go internal to figure it out, just say "sleep". Then watch as they momentarily look at you in amazement and then close their eyes and slip into trance. Then just deepen as necessary.

You don't have to yell it at them, or yank their arm, or anything. I do usually snap my fingers when I do it as a starting gun for the suggestion. You should be able to adapt this very easily to any subject.

Nice John. that one for the list, how about group phenomena? lets face it we have the basics
Book and balloon (and variations)
Cutting a lemon
Finger vice
Hand clasp
?????????

I have seen one that I do not remember the patter however the guy asked everyone questions and at the end told them it was carrots that they were thinking about which was true... It was a mental force... he pushed them indirectly..

Justin
John....
I really like that.... Consider it stolen! I'll use it this afternoon and let you know how well it works

Hugh
Group phenomena? My favorite! This one is for the audience.

The start of the show, right after the introduction:

Hi, I am Justin James.. etc. I know that most of you have come here to have a good time...RIGHT?
I have found, that in order to have a good time, it helps to be in a good mood!....RIGHT?

Ok, is there anyone out there who would like to be in a super mood?

Great! Those of you who don't want to be in a better mood, just don't follow my instructions.

First, I want you to go back in your memory for what I like to call a "yippee" moment. (insert joke about not yuppie..if you like) This is when you got that raise, you got your new car, your girlfriend/boyfriend said yes, your team won, or what ever it was that made you make a fist, pull your arm in, and say "YES!"

This is what we will use to compare against. Please raise your hand when you have this. Good.

Next, I will ask you to visualize, that is, see with your mind's eye, a dial upon a wall. It will be like a clock face but with numbers that go from one to ten, with an indicator arrow pointing to number one.

This is your mood indicator. Raise your hand again when you have this. Good.

Now in a moment, I will ask you clap your hands, and when you do, I want you to move that arrow from one to the two. You will immediately notice your mood improve a little. You will find that each number we move up, the better your mood gets, and the better you feel.

Okay? Now remember to move the arrow to the next higher number when we clap.

Are you ready?

Move the arrow to the two.. now. (clap)

You felt that a little, didn't you. Great, Lets keep going.

Move the arrow to the three..now (clap)

to a four now (clap)

to a five now (clap)

to a six now (clap)

to a seven now (clap)

I'm gonna stop right there because I don't want you to start looking for your cheerleader uniforms.

Okay! Who is in a better mood? (Expect thunderous applause)
------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and just because you just made their applause an anchor for feeling good and this will probably be the most exciting show of their life, you have also just opened the door for getting the easiest volunteers you have ever had.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"I know that some of you are feeling REALLY good now....aren't you.

You are the ones who can enjoy a show like this the most. If you think you feel good now, when the music plays (or whatever) I will ask you to come on down and fill these chairs, and I promise you, you will have the most fun you have ever had your life. So come on down (or however you do it)

These people arrive on stage already in trance, you can just start suggesting. For the group effect:

Tell the audience: The words I say now are only for those onstage, and will have no effect on you still in the audience.

To the stage group:
"Glad you could come down here and join me. In a moment, I will ask you to all clap your hands once. This will prepare you for trance. You will feel yourself on the edge of trance, but will also notice how good it feels. Ready? Clap.

Great, now in a moment, I will say a magic word. When I do, it will be your signal to close your eyes and immediately go into deep trance, and experience more if those wonderful feelings I was telling you about. ARE YOU READY? ABRACADABRA! (snap)

Since they are already in trance when they get there, the expectancy deepeners will drop them all at once. Great visual effect, and you can extrapolate from there as you like.

John
Wow, I was very confused by this post at first. I thought it said Brian Farts and other hypnotic binds. I was thinking poor Brian, he sounds really bound up and who is Brian? Then I realized it said Brain. Sorry, that is what I get when I quickly scan the posts.

Bruce Taylor
ROFLMAO!!!
I Love Paris in the
the Spring time....

Read that sentence out loud.....

Now.. re-read it correctly because MOST of you read it wrong the first time.
Richard,

You got me!!!!
John

I love the year in 6th grade...I want to try it and see what happens.....

Share some more with us!!!

Pattie
It works! I did it yesterday with a client. It is a great misdirect and pattern interupt also.

Hugh Cole
Patti,

It is the concept of why it works that is the real meat of it. From that you can extrapolate and conform to each subject as necessary. (i.e. it wouldn't work well with a 7th grader.) It is any question that they would have to go internal to find out. When their conscious mind goes internal, the subconscious mind HAS TO accept input from the outside world.

I hope that helps
John
This is neat stuff Justin. Thanks for positing it.

OK... I have never done a stage hypnosis show, and I am not a professional hypnotist. That said, just for fun, I have often thought about what I would do if I WAS a presenting a stage hypnosis show.

Here is a shock induction? or double-bind like statement I would like to try. Honestly, I'm not sure its a good idea to pull this.. but I think an experienced stage hypnotist could anticipate what effect this might have and create a safe situation where this might work.

[To be used after assembling a group of subjects on the stage.]

OK. NOW THIS DIRECTION IS FOR EVERYBODY UP ON THE STAGE NOW.

EVERYONE WHO IS ALREADY IN A HYPNOTIC TRANCE, YOU KEEP YOUR HANDS DOWN!

IF YOU READY TO GO INTO A HYPNOTIC TRANCE NOW, RAISE YOUR HANDS.

GOOD. (Counts hands. Says number.) OK. HANDS DOWN!

Stage hypnotists-- What do you think might happen if you said this?

Anyone willing to put it to the test and report the results back to the discussion?
