HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

I just revamped my website, and I am going to be using it to get more folks in Hawaii interested in Hypnosis.  Can I get some suggestions/critiques.

Thanks

Antonio

looking at this from the eyes of someone who knows nothing but wanted to know something , its very well layed out! but the question was from one of my kids (she is 26) she wanted to know who are you and why are you teaching? I would suggest a little bio on you as to what qualifies you as a teacher. other than that rock and roll
forward always forward

I'm not claiming to be teaching hypnosis. I'm using the site to connect people on the Hawaiian Islands that are interested in hypnosis/nlp. Hypnosis/NLP isn't all that popular from what I can tell on the Islands, and I'm working on changing this.

Love it, it's so clean and easy to read
I've been contemplating adding a kind of "points" system for my site/forum to encourage more user contributions. If you think about it, points are useless unless you have some kind of reward. Does anyone have any kind of suggestion as to the kinds of things I could offer? (free hypnosis products (dvds/mp3s/pdf's, have come across my mind. Can anyone else think of anything?)

Thanks

Aloha Antonio!

I think you need quite a bit more information about hypnosis on your site. A good collection of articles should help a lot. You can write them yourself, invite guest posts, and get some from here - hypnosis articles directory At the end of the articles you could put a link with the anchor text 'Discuss this article in our forum'. That should hopefully help stimulate more intelligent discussions on your forum.

You could also perhaps include more videos by having a video section. There are loads available on youtube.

Also try and find some Hawaii business directories to enter your site into, since your aim is to educate people in Hawaii. You could also contact the local press and see if you can get some free publicity. Also, mention the word 'Hawaii' a couple of more times on your home page as well (but not too many times), just to let to search engines know that your site is about hypnosis in Hawaii. There's little point having a great educational resource and no one knowing about it!

It's nice to see you aiming to do something positive for hypnosis by increasing its awareness, rather than complaining that there is not much interest. Keep up the good work Antonio, and keep tweaking your site to make it better and better over time!
Rhodes, you are a wealth of information! If you don't mind, I would love to have you on a podcast (haven't started them yet). In regards to the "discuss this article in the forums", the simple:press forum plugin I am using makes this really easy. I can start a forum thread, and then do a "blog linking" and even select a category for it :D When someone see's the article on the blog they can click a link to go straight to the forum. Also, Rhodes, if you are on Skype, do you mind chatting with me for a while. I believe you probably have a ton more ideas I could use.

Also, in regards to the guest posts, I may let certain hypnotists/hypnotherapists on the Islands be contributors. Its nice that the forum is automated with "blog linking", as this comes in handy big time.

For a while, I was extremely saddened to find that there isn't that much interest in Hypnosis/NLP in Hawaii, and I decided that I have to do something about it.

"be the change"

So I just tested out the idea of posting hypnosis articles to the forum with a blog linking. I went to your articles site (I ASSume its yours) and I saw a title of a article that caught my attention...low and behold after clicking on it, and reading a little bit, Hawaii was mentioned ;) I'm thinking about having a separate page for articles, or just keeping them on the main blog. Not quite sure what to do...

Let me ask you this...

What is the purpose of your website? What is it's function? Who is your target audience?

As someone who has designed a number of websites and had others design websites for me, I would be hesitant to offer any advice until I knew the answers to those questions since form should follow function.

John, the purpose is to connect as with as many folks in Hawaii that are interested in Hypnosis and or NLP. Since the Islands are geographically separated, its kind of hard to get practice groups going which in turn could lead to more people becoming interested in Hypnosis & NLP. My vision is that eventually Hawaii will have a decent amount of people wanting to learn hypnosis & NLP professionally.

Hi Antonio, I would personally prefer separate sections for articles and blog posts. As your site grows, it may become increasingly difficult for people to sort through the mountain of content and look for what they want.

Another idea I've just thought of is a directory of Hawaii hypnotists. They can submit their name, address, phone no's etc. It will be useful for them as promo, and useful for visitors of your site looking for a hypnotist based in Hawaii. Maybe inclusion in this directory could be a reward for a certain amount of forum posts.

I've got a few computer problems at the moment, but they should be sorted soon. In the meantime I'll look out for you on Facebook so we can chat about this some more.

Yeah I was thinking of having a kind of Hypnosis Directory for practitioners. I'll need to find a wordpress plugin that will allow people to add themselves to the directory, bio and all, services, etc.

Off to find plugins ;)

Would be nice to see YOU on the site somewhere. It's your site isn't it?
The faceless "we" can often look like somebody trying to appear bigger than they are and is completely at odds with the current trend in social media.
Hits on my pages increased so much when I stopped talking in the third person and put a bit more of me on the site.
Just my thoughts!
