Crazy people do crazy, unpredictable things.
Hello Fern,
I haven’t been following this thread diligently, but some of the bits and pieces that I see, look good.
Trusting your gut to know you could help is a good thing in itself that helps. Not getting stuck in holding on to the first decision that developed, is even more huge of an innate wisdom.
The term scared you into backing off, is still the great gift of asking, listening, and trusting one’s intuition or gut…..not everyone has recovered those gifts.
I worry in the most healthiest of ways about something I remember about teaching self hypnosis to people. Granted, I have been corrected before on things I remember learning, or maybe a better term would be, I have been exposed to more views and a better understanding of something else that I remembered learning, corrected by someone on hypnothoughts and it opened my eyes even further, I think it was Fable who opened my eyes. A community of hypnotherapists who care is a wonderful guidance system and when it is as good as this community, has a tendency to build in it’s own safety and security….it’s a wonderful place to be right, and not so right, and learn.
Anyway, what I was referring to that I was taught about teaching self hypnosis to people is this:
If people are coming to you for help and you notice that their self talk, their thinking is all negative, you want to correct that before you teach them self hypnosis. Self hypnosis is a great tool in the hands of a positive thinking person, it re-enforces positive suggestions, but for the negative thinking or negative self talking person, when they are hypnotizing themselves, their suggestions get worded in the negative which may have a tendency to re-enforce the behavior they are hating at the moment.
On the other hand, EFT is good, it is about acceptance, forgiveness, and awareness and the language deals with the reality of things and self acceptance, which also works to remove the fear of dealing with things and empowers a person.
That being said, I am glad you referred out.
And who knows, maybe you can still work with her and the doctor.
What a great teaching and learning this thread is.
Enjoy,
Steve
Thanks Michael, I respect your opinion and appreciate your time and comment!

Hi Fern,
I am not qualified or legally allowed to give medical, psychological or legal advice. So, what follows is NOT medical, psychological or legal advice.
This could be an opportunity to develop a relationship with a local licensed mental health professional because if there is any chance of being accused of "practicing without a licensed" it is a good idea to practice safe* hypnosis.
Remembering my caveat: I am not qualified or legally allowed to give medical, psychological or legal advice and depending on where you live and practice and the personality of local law enforcement, I do not think you'd be accused of "practicing without a license" for asking about the nature of the voice(s). Now, if he or she is getting messages from Satan -- Refer them to a licensed health care provider immediately! If client reports hearing mom's voice reminding him or her to wear a sweater or take their umbrella - a referral is probably is not necessary...
Newbies-
I trust you are using an "Intake/Practitioner-Client Agreement" that contains basic client info and cleary express the services that are and are not being offered.
My Intake/Practitioner-Client Agreement contains:
I understand that this consultation is not meant to diagnose or treat any disease, but rather, it is intended to provide information and education that will promote feeling better, healing faster and generally being more effective. It is designed to give me insight and tools into my innate healing potential and guide me into being more effective in helping myself.
I also realize that this consultation is not a substitute for conventional medicine and I have been encouraged to seek the advice of a licensed health care provider should I choose to with regard to treating me for specific medical or psychological problems
Michael E.
PS -- * Condoms are not necessary for practicing safe hypnosis...
