Does anyone know of a Nationally accredited college? university? that offers a BA, MA. or PhD in hypnotherapy? Aside from knowing as much as possible re hypnosis... is it necessary to hold a degree in the field? Up till now no client as ever asked me about having a degree in this field other than wanting to know if I am Bd. Cert.

Hi Nicole:

Kevin is spot on with his comments.
No need for a silly real PhD.
Just have everyone call you “Doc”, you instantly become Doc Merline. Then change your photo on your web page to a shot of you in a white lab/doctor’s coat; you’re more than half way home.
Lastly get on eBay and see which vendor will sell you a Doctor of Divinity or PhD the cheapest. Why waste time and money going to a University that is in reality someone’s spare bedroom or bookstore on the bad side of town.

Nicole, I feel that being the best Hypnotist you can be is the most important. The PhD in hypnotherapy is just marketing, hype and an exercise in poor judgment.
I don’t know of any nationally accredited college that has a PhD program in Hypnotherapy.

As far as I am aware the only genuine degree available in the UK is through Thames Valley University,
Stephen~ Oh WOW is that seriously embarrassing

If anything that 's a HUGE marketing mistake!

Force of habit... I meant it to go to http://hypnosismarketingtips.com/

Sorry Guys!!!

That's Craig Eubank's site and it Truly is the BEST Free Resource for Hypnotherapists and Marketing...

I'll see if I can ask Scott to correct my error for me... (Huge red face on my end of the keyboard here)...

Or actually, what I just now did was deleted my post (that's faster and less of a headache for Scott). I'll leave it to you, Stephen to delete my mistake on your end as well... **It still shows the hyperlink connecting to my site by mistake.

I'd appreciate it actually...

Thanks!

Kevin

Intentionally leaving my signature url off of this post :-)
To be fair Terence, no course "qualifies" anyone to practice if we are honest although you are correct that it is a research degree (MSc in Clinical Hypnotherapy). Personally I would like to see a combined CBT/Hypnotherapy degree.

That's only a research degree, though, and they state that it will not qualify anybody to go into practice. As far as I am aware, there is no *genuine* degree anywhere. Several universities have looked at several courses (including my own) but have always stated that they don't see a standalone course, only a unit in another course, such as psychology, for instance.
