Device Information needed for Stage Show that can remotely change sound FX / Songs

I am interested in a device for when I do my Stage Shows that allows you
to change the songs on a cd player or maybe a laptop using a remote
control. I know I have seen these devices used, but I do not know what
they are called or any model numbers. Does anyone here have any
recommendations please? Thanks!

Hi Jason

I use this device for my shows

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Docking-Charge-station-iPhone-control/dp/B0...

If the moderator cuts out the advert then look for remote control for ipod on amazon

Regards

Dave
sounds like a trip to Best Buy would be a good idea, the kids there are very smart, at least here in Cailf.

I'm not going to put too much faith into that Tony LOL...because I went to Guitar City and talked to the people in my area and they have never heard of such a device. I think they were in deep trance for a few seconds by the look I was getting. I found one device, but it is like $1000.00. I was hopeing for like $500.00 or less.

Please keep the ideas coming all and thanks to all who replied so far!

You're asking for a couple of things.

Personally, as a stage hypnotist, I would recommend either:

1) Using your laptop and use Powerpoint to control your music with a powerpoint remote control that plugs into your USB port.

2) Switch all of your music to an iPod (Touch would be my preference) and use something like the iJet to control it.

Or the more sophisticated model (read: more expensive)

If you happen to have an iphone or ipod, theres plenty of apps available that allows you to connect to ur laptop via wireless. I have tried remoteX, works well for me.
I use the reliable and easy to use Virtual Soundman iCue2. I bought three before Kelly went out of business. Before the iCue2 I used other Virtual Soundman products. Never had a problem.
I'm going to get slammed here but, here goes.....

In my opinion only a rank amateur needs to bother doing anything with their sound. Your road manager or the venue sound engineer does that.

If you can't afford that then you either are not charging enough or you are 'playing' at being professional.

Goes to find a nice safe corner to hide in.....
I have a lot of your products Jon and I totally agree with you, but as it happens in life, sometimes things are as we always want them. I would like to have the device for times it is not possible to have someone with me like when I have to fly somewhere instead of driving and just for the time my sound guy cannot go with me. It costs me a lot more to have someone fly with me then it does to have them there with me when the trip is within driving distance. If I did mostly local shows or driving only distance then that would be fine, but when I go to Europe, it is not even feasible for the customer to pay for 2 of us to go..wouldn't you agree?

John I did setting on the IJet for now to use with my IPOD Touch. I got the one that was like $26.00 on Ebay. So far I have not had to use it for my shows, but it does work great in 'testing' it. Thanks for the recommendation to you and all the others. I still would like to have something I can use stand alone or with my pc that would not cost an arm and a leg.

Ask Alex Duvall directly. I have seen his DVD's shows and he is usung such equipment really successfully and he is recording his videos as well. Of course he is flexible enough and really skilled to do all that but remembering that he is performing for really good venues on Mallorca- I would go for his advice.
You can find him here on hypnothoughts.
Jonathan I would not agree with you.
It all depends on many factors.
Country, place, time- everything,

Let me tell you an example. Poland. I perform in Poland for about 12 years now.
And this is awful to say but- if there is light and sound it usually does not work well.
If it works well, then usually and typically an operator is drunk or does not want to help you.
If you are lucky (I believe I mostly am) then you have no problem.

But in many cases (especially small corporations) they hire you and even do wot worry about sound etc.
Or are being lied by venue owner who is an amateur. They are being told everything is fine and then...
So you come and you are surprised. They have told you thay have sound... yeah.. they have... old mic on 1m cable.
Sometimes even working one...
They have told you they have lights on stage...well... again "true". There is enough light to read a newspaper.

So following your opinion I should not perform. As a pro I should not worry about that.
But if in this strange country selling 1 show a month is called "success" then... would you take away your dinner from your mounth? In such cases you must be self dependant.

A true professional should be prepared for ANY situation.
And in such case- when you come and are independent, and able to manage it all- then better for you as a showman.
I agree with your point of view to some level only. Old times and respect to artists. There was an artist and there was a sound master....in the past.... Right now in many places it looks absolutely different.
And 99% of venues owners are usually rednecks with money. Especially in Poland.
They do not see any difference between actor and a screwdriver. They pay. They want. They do not care.
Being able to control the whole show is the only reasonable solution.

Of course you may say something like "take someone with you".
But what if the proce of your show is ok to support only you?
And 99% of situations in Poland is like that. They will pay small money or good money but for one person only.
So what in such a case?
You have someone to work with you and at the end... none of you are making your living.

Of course you can always say that you do that for "passion purposes". And again... in many cases performers do that for these purposes:)

Of course it's a perfect dream. Your own manager, your own crew, your own show where show is the only thing to worry about. Possible?
Yes.
Easy? I do not know.
But less and less typical.

Ian I was thinking the SAME thing when I wrote my last reply to Jon LOL...but I know Jon would say (and I do not mean any disrespect to Jon of course...you cannot tell voice tonality on forums) that doing your OWN music like Alex does looks unprofessional too (Jon action said that in his Stage Hypnosis Book - Deeper and Deeper). I thought it funny we both thought of Alex though.
