HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

Yesterday I finally decided to bite the bullet and join Twitter. After a hour or two of puzzling over it I think I have more or less got the hang of it. Does anyone have any experiences or tips of Twitter that they would like to share?

I have just written a tweet (I think that's what you call it) and realised that I am more or less twittering to my self. Does anyone want to add me, and I will add them in return? It would be great to have fellow hypnotherapists and hypnotists to tweet to. You can find me here

http://twitter.com/JonRhodesUK Just let me know you are from HypnoThoughts and I'll add you back - let's not tweet alone!

Hi, I added you to my Twitter. You can follow back at www.twitter.com/HypnogasmStudio .

To find more people like us, use the search bar on the right. Just type in "Hypnosis" and anyone tweeting about it will come up in the search results. Good luck with your Twitter experience!
Hi Jon,

There's already a group on HypnoThoughts for Twitterers: Twitter for Hypnotists. There's some good info there.

Twitter is still kind of the "wild west" in terms of a communications platform. You can do anything you want with it, really, and "the marketplace" will tell you if they like what you're doing by either following you or not. Depending on your goals, you can use it to...

- Keep in touch with people you know in real life
- Build personal or professional relationships with people you don't know but want to know
- Provide customer service support/handle complaints (more large companies are using Twitter this way)
- Keep website members updated about activity on your site (check out the @HypnoThoughts Twitter Feed for an example)
- Send updates about your event (see Scott Sandland's @HypnoSummit account for that)
- Broadcast helpful info and news items about your field of expertise (Scott also does that with the @HypnoSummit account)
- Entertain people (lots of comedians and TV networks have Twitter feeds)
- Advocate for your cause, political viewpoint or candidate (I do this with my account, @KathleenHanover)
- Create an RSS feed reader (RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication," which is a way of subscribing to a news feed about a topic or person who interests you). I'm a libertarian and Ron Paul fan, so I set up the account @RonPaul_2012 to send me news stories that mention Ron Paul, and now (amazingly) the account has over 900 followers. Turns out there's a market for Ron Paul news.

People who follow me @KathleenHanover get a mix of several of these things because when I started I didn't really have a goal. Like you, was figuring out Twitter as I went along.

Hope this helps!

I am now following you Hypnogasm and Kathleen! Thanks for the advice Kathleen, I will join the Twitter group right away!
Yes I agree. I would rather have 30 or 40 followers that are actually interested in hypnotherapy than 3000 that are not. It's quality not quantity as far as I'm concerned!
Hi Jon,

I've been using twitter since back shortly after it was created. I've done extensive testing of response to tweets and had long conversations about it with some very experienced marketers.

My conclusion, is that it really isn't worth the time, and I'm advising my clients to stick with what works.

If you were a large business I would recommend a social media monitoring service, so you could be alerted to anyone talking about you or your business. It is good to respond to them, especially if they either Rave or Complain.

But for an entrepreneur, social media is mostly a time suck. There are many more efficient and effective ways of marketing your business, and many of those you can automate (such as email marketing).

I do recommend you become familiar with Twitter and Facebook, since they are two of the most used Social Media sites, but for now and until these prove to have a significant impact on sales, focus your time on what brings in clients.

Cheers,

Craig Eubanks

Thanks Craig - I will persevere with Twitter, but I don't plan on investing a lot of time in it. I always believe that creating new content and products should be priority. I just added you as a follow by the way Craig! I get the impression that if you have a good following of people that are genuinely interested in your field, then you might see some benefit, but it is probably easier said than done to get this good quality following!
