Does anyone have extensive experience in issuing a product liscence to companies that use your audios in their programs?

I have a few companies asking me to create a themed series of motivational hypnosis audios for them. This is what I love to do so of course I am thrilled. In order for the contracting process to run smoothly and consistently, I am creating a system to license such products for use by these companies and wondered about pros and cons, triumphs and pitfalls for any of you have done this.

Love and Brilliance,

Heather

Hi Heather,

Licensing is a great way to broaden one's revenue base and make passive income.

I'd strongly suggest that you invest in an appointment with an intellectual property attorney who specializes in product licensing, instead of asking for legal advice from hypnotherapists. Yes, you can copy and paste a licensing agreement from somewhere else. But you need someone to explain to you the strategic, long-term implications of the licensing agreements you create. (And an intellectual property attorney can help you make sure that your work is appropriately trademarked.)

You may also want to check with a CPA about the tax implications of revenues from licensing. (Ask if it makes more sense for the licensor to be you as an individual, or a corporation or LLC.)

Best of luck with your venture!

Thank you Kathleen for your guidance on this. I shall contact an intellectual property attorney.

Cheers,

Heather

Lee Wilson's stuff is excellent and well worth the read, not only for audio tapes, but also for those that make videos that may wind up in the public domain.
