Easy...... of course tommy, is a relative term. I like Sony Vegas pro 9.0. for ease of use and ability to handle Sony's formats well. It's about 600 bucks though. Prior to that I was using "Power Director". Microsoft's freebee Moviemaker thing is actually pretty good if you just want to cobble together a simple video. If you are using a Mac ... there is Final cut. But it is about a Grand.
There's also Edius Neo from Grass Valley/Canopus which is a cut down version of the complete package but is adequate for most things. It only works on PC. You can try it for a month. QuickTime is also an option for very basic editing and works on Mac and PC.
Whatever system you use do read the instruction manuals thoroughly - even if you don't usually. It will save you so much time in the end. If you haven't much experience of editing then you can usually find some online tutorials which will help.
Editing can take a long time (I was a full time video editor for 15 years) so sometimes it's worth considering the cost implications of your time and paying someone else to do it. My rule of thumb was (and still is) - however long you think it should take, double it and then add on another hour or 2 for good luck.
You have seen my videos, I edit them all with the "adobe premier elements". Any best buy has it. The basic elements version is about $100 and the upgraded version is about $700. I use the cheap version. I have tried all the rest. I am only smart enough for the adobe premier elements program...
If you want to go a really affordable way I would recommend searching for some open source programs as their are free. Some of them are perfect if you're just doing simple editing. I use kden live on Ubuntu linux and it suits me just fine.
Tommy, easy for you may not be easy for me . . . or vice versa. The Windows Movie Maker that is built into Windows is pretty easy to most folks and it has most things folks want. However, it all depends on what you're looking for. Are you out to author DVDs or cut some youtube clips? I don't reccommend Pinnacle as I had all sorts or problems with it crashing my system but others get good mileage from it. I use Power Director and am happy with it. In the end, you have to make the decision. Of course, there is also the option of paying a good editor to do the work you need if you find the learning curve too steep.
Just personal taste really. but Power Director is a great program and easy to work with. I went to Sony Vegas Pro to be compatible with someone else who preferred it. Otherwise I would still be on Power Director.
I'll just chime in that I really like Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. Purchased it on Amazon for about $100. It's very user friendly, produces much more than simply .avi files, lots of rendering options, *and* there are a ton of YouTube videos that will help you fine-tune what you're doing. Look for videos by guerillabill; he's the best. Also, howdoesthatwork on YouTube has some good videos and makes a great tutorial DVD that you can order if you want to learn more. Have fun!!
It sounds like the standard Windows, movie maker will do everything you want.
Regards, how long it takes to edit videos.
It can be done in a few minutes, if all you want to do, is take the video you have, and render it to put on youtube.
If you want to play around with it and make a professional looking edited video, you can take up to several hours(artfully vague) and still not be entirely satisfied with the end result.
You realy need to set your own limits, and edit to the level that you feel is appropriate.
yes, I have taken more than two hours to create and render a three minute video, but I have also had a three minute video up and on you tube with about ten minutes, of shooting the footage.
