Guys n Gals,

I'm currently applying to a referral service as a provider. Along with letters of reccomendation, they also want peer reviewed studies showing that hypnosis is effective. I explained that I have an eclectic approach and that such studies would be irrelevant to what I do and would neither help or hinder my cause, but they still said they want the research :)

I have the research for pain management, and I know that the research on hypnosis for smoking cessation isn't great.

What I don't have is research about hypnosis and anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

Do you know of any peer revied studies on the efficacy of hypnosis as an intervention for depression , anxiety, and other mental health issues? Do you have a link to the study or studies?

Thanks.

Joe

Thanks.

And yes, you're quite correct about that.

Thanks.

Hi Joe,

Hopefully some of these may be of use to you. While the abstracts can be helpful, there really are no short cuts when it comes to reviewing the literature when you are committed to ethical practice. Becoming comfortable with using PubMed and MedLine and gaining command of what the medical literature actually says can be of tremendous benefit in so many ways.

Evidence-based practice gets short shrift in many mind-body therapy professions. I'm always happy to see it discussed.

Best wishes in your endeavor!

Regards,
Yanna
