I was chatting with someone recently about this and would love to get a broader opinion from this group. When someone is hypnotized in a stage setting and given suggestions . . . are they following the suggestions because, in trance, they feel compelled to "play along" or do they actually believe the suggestion? So if someone has been given a suggestion that their butt has fallen off and they should pick it up and put it back on, do they actually believe their butt has fallen off or are they just compelled to act "as if"?

Thanks!

Everything is opinions here. :)

Trance is different for everyone. There's actually a continuum between those two extremes. For example, someone could be so willing to play along that he experiences whatever was suggested to him even though he really knows that it's not true.
