Greetings all!
I have a new client who produces excess saliva and has developed a pattern of "gulping" air. He's been receiving cranial sacral treatments which are helping him reduce the amount of saliva he produces. He is coming to me so that he can re-remember how it was for him to breathe normally. Any suggestions on how you would work with him would be most appreciated.

"so that he can re-remember", the answer is to hand..... you've already enumerated the answer. Get him to recall a time when the gulping was not present and how it felt. Connect him with the idea that this compensation is no longer necessary and then future pace him to ensure it sticks.

As you bring your client into hypnosis, and his breathing becomes relaxed, you can suggest something like:
"You have reached a state of deep relaxation and it feels so good. Notice that you are breathing naturally and freely on your own. Know that you can achieve this pattern of relaxation and breathing anytime you want ..."
Or something like that.
You may want to use a "dial" to dial down his desire to gulp. After all, it's possible he unconsciously thinks the gulping is a "positive thing" because it brought him so much comfort from the excess saliva. The desire to gulp may still be strong.
One other suggestion - a post hypnotic: "Any time you see the color white, you are reminded of your desire and ability to breathe naturally and freely ... as you are breathing now."
Personally, I always like to connect my client's future desired state with their current relaxed state. It really helps!
And I hope this helps. Best of luck! And please, share your success story when you have a chance.
Walter
