Hi All,

I was wandering, if someone could give me the instructions to the hand press induction... I'm new to hypnosis and wanted to know how it works, and also do I need to do a suggestibilty test before I do the induction or can I do it from cold? also is a induction that will work a lot? I've seen it on youtube but that's about it.

Yes, you still need a good pre-talk and - more importantly - and good and swift deepener.

Hi Graham, thanks for the reply....I've had a look at the weblinks and I honestly don't know why I didn't find them any earlier.

Thanks they've been a good help.
Call the Hypnotherapy Academy of America, you can get the number from their site, and order a video called "hypnosis induction, deepening and testing methods" by Tim Simmerman which has the hand press induction on it along with ten others. Like any good hypnotherapist, you probably already understand that you're going to need more than just one or two inductions... don't look for the "magic induction" that gets everybody, because it doesn't exist. Learn multiple inductions.
So, to answer your other question, yes, it works well. Presuggestion is always important. Calibrate your client so you know whether you're going to use visual, auditory or kinesthetic patter. Yes, suggestibility testing helps, too. I've had a high degree of success with the handpress induction, but the same can be said about the pendulum induction, the 10 count induction, the handshake induction, the standing induction, the hand wave induction, the eye gaze induction and so on. You MUST gear it to the client. If you're doing an induction and it doesn't work for the client, be confident and reassure them that they can go into hypnosis if they want to, then change inductions. Repeat as necessary.
Another note: once you've got eye closure after the startle response (get the video so this will make sense), move immediately into a deepener such as the head roll. It helps to do multiple deepenings and then multiple testings. Again, referring to my previous post a moment ago, you must gear it to the client. Everybody induces at different speeds and some need more deepenings than others.
Thank you very much for your comment Lester, I'll definately get that video and I appreciate your advice, I'll remember that....

Once again thanks.
Thanks Mr Green.

You'll find the video demo / explanation here:

Second one down.

As with all 'techniques' remember it is not the mechanics of the technique itself (this is virtually irrelevant) it is what goes on behind, Your own confidence and expectations are everything.

It's very good.
Hi Nathan, thanks for your comment, I've been watching your video and you've intrigued me to want to learn this induction. I'm new to all this so i'm really scared in trying.....would the process be as follows..pretalk, then 2 suggestibility tests and then the hand press induction?

I teach 1 on 1 down in Cambridge if your interested.
But no, a short description of what going to happen is enough.
I've done it from cold really easy.
And yes, it works a lot, but you cant guarantee it each and every time,
much like every other hypnosis induction technique.

Hypnosis is really pretty secret stuff. As a result.. folks often get perplexed (and yes scared) because they attribute sucess and failure to a magic sequence of words or a secret handshake or some other such nonsense, I am going to repeat the best advice you've gotten on the thread .... Listen carefully ....

Thank Nathan, Watch his videos and have fun playing with the technique.

Reading what Hugh just said will be really useful for your development in hypnosis.

I think it was from Dave Elman that I got the idea that anything can be an induction. Seriously! Three puffs on a cigarette will do it.

You could do the hand press completely 'wrongly', and still pull it off. It's less about the mechanics and more about you and how the client views you. The three keys to good inductions are:

Practice. Practice. Practice.

Oh, those and rapport. rapport. rapport.
Abdul,
Take Chris up on this offer. Even better, grab a friend and travel together for a two-on-one with Chris.
Just from the nature of your question and the length of time you've had an interest, I know you will benefit from live training.
OK, so you'll have to pay him but it will be worth the investment.
I often see "the penny drop" as soon as attendees begin one of my training sessions.
Otherwise you could be just "p*ssing in the wind" for a good deal longer.
