Have a Client for Gambling Addiction
I have a client that has a gambling addiction. Will be seeing her Sunday. She has been to Gamblers Anonymous. Has anyone worked with clients with this issue and any input would be helpful?

In 27 years of practice, I have only worked with two clients for gambling addiction. One was successful, and one was not.
The failure was with a middle-age man who said that his wife was going to divorce him unless he overcame his gambling addiction. He told me that was spending over $1000 monthly at the Indian Casino. Although he convinced me that he was ready to quit going to the casino and seemed receptive to suggestions and imagery at the first session, parts therapy at a later session revealed that he really did not CHOOSE to quit gambling totally, but only wanted to cut down on the amount of money he gambled away. Compromise was not acceptable to his wife, and he felt pressured and manipulated under the threat of divorce. I suggested relationship counseling and/or psychological counseling; but he called me some weeks later and said that his wife left him because he failed her ultimatum. He told me that in some ways he felt relieved.
The success incorporated the use of both regression and parts therapy to discover and release the core causes of the addictive personality. The primary difference was that the successful client made the choice of her own free will, and was willing to make a commitment to success.

What game is the client addition focussed on?
The reason I ask this question, is because different games, have different effects, and thoughtpatterns that occur.
