Wow, is this just health insurance or does it afford you income protection also?
Health insurance costs in this country are soaring. My wife recently lost her job due to budget cuts, and we had to add her to my medical insurance. Just to add her was $780 per month in addition to what I pay ... we will now be paying $1,500 per month just for medical coverage.

In Panama where we have a second home, the exact same medical insurance plan (same company) offers insurance for me at $165 per month, and I assume my wife's would be even cheaper ... in addition, they also have a national insurance plan for those who choose not to purchase insurance.
Part of it is geography.... I pay $320 a month for myself (age 44) in Oklahoma with a $5000 deductable... Hospitalization ONLY....
My son (age 14) costs me another 200 a month....

I have done much research since I do training for other health care providers, and there is nothing in Obama care to control the costs of our policies, in fact, quite the opposite. And so we will pay more and more each year until the IRS sends us to prison for being unable to afford coverage... And they call this health care reform....

Don;t you have RomneyCare in MA? But now that I think about it, none of us will ever qualify for these programs becausee we are rich (rich being defined by Obama as anyone that is not yet living below the poverty line)
Just health insurance

Hi Tommy,

The coverage I have is $165 a month with a $3,000 annual deductible, $5 million lifetime cap, and pays 100% after the deductible is reached. I pay lower negotiated rates on MD visits, lab work, etc.

Insurance premium prices are largely a function of the state you live in. "Helpful" politicians in many states have mandated that insurance cover everything under the sun, whether you want the coverage or not (such as maternity coverage for men, impotence coverage for women, etc.) The less your state legislature interferes with the insurance business, the lower the premiums tend to be.

The Democrats in Congress killed legislation that would have allowed anyone to buy insurance across state lines. This would have made insurance affordable for everybody. It's a damn shame.

I've got Major Medical only with a $5000 deductible in a policy that allows for a Health Savings Account (HSA). The HSA allows you to save, tax free and with a small amount of interest. This money is a bit like an IRA in that you have restrictions on it's use. But this is how I saved enough to cover the deductible and then some. I can use it to pay doctors visits, and other qualified medical expenses. My premium in FL. is just under $300/mo.
