I have a client who is adament that she can not relax. Ever. Period. And she feels very anxious when attempting to visualize anything, and when she can none of it seems relaxing to her. She claims massage therapy doesn't even relax her. Just very wound up. I did eye lock test and stiff arm and both failed and by the end of the session she actually had some tears because it "wasn't what she expected" so of course I feel awful and really want to help her. She's a avid chain smoker, who actually still enjoys her habit, but has to quit so her doctor will schedule a necessary surgury for her. Does anyone have some good inductions for analytical clients? And do you just continue trying induction after induction untill something works? I was very encouraging through all of this telling her that the more we practise, the easier and better it will work.

Thanks,

Deb

Deb,

Here is a very good induction for analyticals. It gives them something worthwhile to do. It also give you the opportunity at each part to verify what you are doing is working. I suggest you try it yourself.

Here is the text version, just substitute the arm relaxing for the warm glow in chest and it works just fine.

If she has problems feeling what you suggested, it is probably because she is not following your instructions. Make sure you emphasize the fact that the feelings you suggest will happen automatically, and she is not to try and make them happen.

Oh, and by the way; If she came to you for stop smoking and still enjoys her habit.. prepare for failure. We can't change free will.

I hope this helps you

This is EXACTLY where NLP and covert hypnosis work.

I am REALLY shortening this... but along these lines...

"I am so glad you have made the decision to quit smoking. A lot of people really struggle with hypnosis. Some people just have a more difficult time going into trance quickly or feel under pressure. The good news is that you can go into trance quickly or slowly, it doens't rally matter. All that matters is that you have made a decision to quit, and you have already taken action by coming here today.

Let's forget about eyes open, or eyes closed, or even whether you are relaxed or not- what really matters is your deisre, and your mental state. Stage hypnotists hypnotize people who do all kinds of active things, so relaxation isn't even important, just the desire to quit. And we know you have this desire because you have come here today.

NLP is like hypnosis in that it uses the mind to create subconsious change. Now, aware of it or not you have already made change by simply coming here again to suceed, and so I am going to guide you through some thought patterns that will help reinforce this change, by breaking old associations and automatic behaviors and replacing these patterns with new behaviors.

We can take this in steps. You can at anytime, close the eyes or you can keep them open. You can go into trance quickly or slowly or even stay in a state of concentration and awarness as we do these exercises."

Then use some NLP patterns.... new behavior generator, etc.

As she goes into trance (she will) you can use permissive language such as, "a lot of people find at this point it is more comfortable to close the eyes and let go" (avoiding the relax or sleep word here), while other find that continuing to fixate on a point on the far wall helps them go deeper into awareness and really gain from these exercises"

Run another NLP pattern such as creating resource states....

End with some direct suggestions and ego-strengthining...

"Although you have gon about tis process differently than some of my other clients, you have powerfully entered this new chapter of life by learning from these paterns and thoughts today. I know you will do well, I can see it in your face. You look wonderful! Like you have already enjoyed these first few moments of deriving energy from deep breaths and oxygen. Blah, Blah , Blah...."

If you don;t want to use the word NLP or hypnosis, just call them "mental exercises"
You might watch my "backwards hypnosis" induction, it could give you some additional ideas...

If you are unable to find a good induction script for analytical resisters, email me privately at: roy@royhunter.com and I will be happy to send you a copy of one of mine.
