Hypno - Counselling - is there anybody out there ...

Hi, if there is anybody else out there who is working as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist as well as a Hypnotherapist/Hypnopsychotherapist, I would be pleased to know you.

I am not sure if the US has a different system to the UK, but I am sure we could exchange ideas and so on.

At the moment I have found that clients quite often come to me for one therapy and then have the other one after a session or two which is a personalised tailor made service and works well.  It would be useful to exchange ideas though sometimes

Looking forward to meeting you

best wishes

Though not a counseller Psychotheraopist, the way we were taught means we use Psychotherapy under hypnosis which is very powerful. I think we automatically fit to a clients needs because they are all different, the tools or techniques may be the same just used and adjusted accordingly. If you checkout the different groups and discussions you will find some very varied aproaches. Michael Ellner is one good source of info he is like a walking encyclopeadia.

HI Sue,
I have a Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy and I am a Certified Counselor and Registered Hypnotherapist here in the State of Washington. Most of my sessions are combinations of traditional talk therapy and hypnotherapy. I am using hypnosis more and more frequently in couples sessions as well.

Hi Roger, it sounds as though you work along similar lines to the way I work - one interesting thing I find is that cllg clients (initially sceptical about hypnotherapy) come round to the idea after a couple of sessions - I am sure this is because personal trust has been built up - making the hypnotherapy part more effective - do you have any thoughts about whether this means that a hypnotherapist seeing someone (without that gradual build up of trust) can be as effective or does it really matter?

What matters is trust & rapport - so yes, (if I am understanding your question, a hypnotherapist can be very effective in the first session. (Is that your question?)

Roger
I suppose I am really putting forward the thought that a Hypno Counsellor may be able to build up trust to a deeper level, therefore being more successful than a Hypnotherapist who may meet the client, take the info and prepare a session.

i have found that it seems to make a difference and wondered if you have noticed this in your practice.

Sue, I don't think so. I have seen some very credentialed counselors who were terrible with trust and rapport with their clients. (I have also observed some pretty bad hypnotherapists who were terrible with trust/rapport) I think it is about the integrity of the therapist and about being client-centered.
