Greetings all, and wishing you all a wonderful New Year, for here it is, 1/1/11!

I'm using hypnotherapy with a woman suffering from Hashimoto's, one of a number of autoimmune illnesses. She has experienced reduced symptoms as a result of imagery based work and regression.

Letting go was an unresolved issue as she came out of a regression experience, and, although we were at the end of our session, I wasn't comfortable sending her on her way while she was still feeling so sad.  Since we both had some extra time I had her return to a hypnotic trance where she was able to pinpoint the sadness within her body, describing its details in terms of size, shape, weight, color, temperature, smell, touch, and sound.  With this accomplished she took control of it, changing it to what she wanted to experience, then letting it go.

In the few moments it took to do that, this client's expression and demeanor changed from sorrow to delight.

Since I am trained in Parts Therapy I am thinking this may be a good direction, and perhaps continuing with some Regression and imagery work.  I believe relaxation and feeling in control are two of the keys for managing symptoms.

I would be very interested to learn about your hypnotherapy experiences with Hashimoto's and other autoimmune ailments.

Be well,

Hi Aline

Parts is an excellent route to go with any autoimmune disease including Hashimoto's. Additionally I have the client go to the control room of their body and make what ever necessary changes are needed. I also draw from Keith Clark's You're Sharp Enough To Be Your Own Surgeon and from Steve Parkhill's Answer Cancer. If you look around here at HT you will find postings from Melissa Roth and from Michael Ellner (and others) that will be beneficial to you. You are off to a great start.

Hi Aline,

I have extensive experience helping people with a wide range of immune related diseases, conditions and syndromes.

In my opinion, the best practice for this client would be to keep her focused on intentionally relaxing on a daily basis and using that time to focus on all the fun, pleasure, and satisfaction that she is going to have
taking charge of her life and health. Let her guide your sessions.

Ellnerians believe that "Hypnotic Healing Is Symbolic" - According to me, the magic is not in the techniques that you have mastered-- The magic is in your skills and abilities to help your clients tap into their
inner-resources with positive expectations and an excited imagination THAT IS
THE REAL MAGIC.

Again, I believe that best way to help your client help herself is to let her guide your sessions: What is going on now - How can you help her continue to nourish and empower her inner-healer.

Just a reminder: The GPS is not the Territory.

Healing is state dependent -- We are bio-engineered to automatically rebalance and heal when we are in "rest and digest" states. The Immune System is a model. Parts Therapy, Regression, Hypnosis, Quantum Focusing
and my opinions are models.

Teaching clients how and motivating them to get into the habit of intentionally relaxing is an evidence-based approach to helping clients heal faster and more effectively.

Happy New Year-

Thanks Roger, your feedback is greatly appreciated.  I like the control room image.  I do have Answer Cancer, and I will check the other book and listing suggestions you have made.
