FYI- I will comment on the study cited below as soon as I have a chance to read the study -- The item posted below the study cited above is recommended reading.
I taught him self-hypnosis and helped him develop his own strategy for using hypno-imagery for helping himself rewire his brain and body - He enlisted his inner-electrician to assist his inner medical team and practiced for several minutes at a time several times a day. After 4 months of practice the client regained enough use of his arm and hand to enable him to use a walker and gain some independence. The fact is that he might have regained the use over time without the hypno-imagery -- I'll never know: Snip: Recent studies have suggested that mental rehearsal of movement can produce effects normally attributed to practicing the actual movements. Imagining hand movements could stimulate restitution and redistribution of brain activity, which accompanies recovery of hand function, thus resulting in a reduced motor deficit. Current efficacy evidence for mental practice with motorimagery in stroke is insufficient due to methodological limitations. Unsnip
Here's the recent research and earlier research -

Elizabeth:
I second Seth-Deborah Roth’s recommendation of Don Mottin’s work with Stroke Survivors not “Victims”. The plasticity of the brain is amazing.
I have used Don Mottin’s methods for Stroke Survivors and consider his work a “must have” for a Hypnosis library.
