Did anyone notice what a great job Melissa Roth did in getting hypnosis for Menopause (hot flashes) and IBS "hypnosis cured my IBS" noticed in "FIRST" magazine this month???? These kinds of article lend to our credability as a profession and I want to applaud Melissa for her contribution.

Thank each of you for your words of support. Actually, the IBS article depressed me so much that I haven't even read the menopause article yet. I spent over 4 hours with this reporter. I knew from the beginning that I would do a lot of the work and only get a mention in the article so that is not what depressed me. I got Janet, one of my initial IBS clients from 1996 to agree to be interviewed and photographed for the article. Beyond that, I spent over 4 hours of office time pulling together data and explaining it to this reporter. Again, I've done enough media interviews to know how the game is played and I was truly happy to do it because I could tell the journalist was going to present hypnosis in a positive light.

The part that upset me was the end of the article. The writer quoted me saying that the IBS therapy worked as well on CD's as it does in person and made it sound like I told the readers to to go www.hypnoshop.com to buy a single $24 CD to cure their IBS symptoms. #1 I told her just the opposite. #2 Hypnoshop is not my web site. It is a site that exclusively sells shoddy quality hypnosis CD's promising that they will cure the world's woes and insure world peace. Yes, on my site they could have bought my 6 session therapy program but they coud also have found information on IBS that has the full weight of scientific documentation as well. #3 As I told the writer, one session is NOT going to help anyone with IBS achieve significant or lasting relief. But, on the weight of the mis-quote from me in the magazine people will buy the $24 CD, expect a miracle and, of course, when they do not get magical relief of their symptoms they are going to decide that hypnosis does not work for IBS. In addition, they will think that Melissa Roth women must be a quack.

As soon as I can get uncovered from work I am going to write the editor of First For Women magazine a letter of complaint. The article appeared to be a positive piece on using hypnosis for IBS symptoms. But, because fo the blatant mis-quote it was actually a blatant rip off for the average reader. I don't know how the reporter is associated with hypnoshop.com but I hope they give her a big enough kick-back that she can retire because I would like to break her fingers.
Take a deep breath Melissa.... and let it go....

You have my sympathy. I have only ever had minor misquotes, on articles, but it is nevertheless irritating, when you have spent time and energy explaining things properly, to find yourself misquoted.

Often it is simply shoddy shorthand.

Love and hugs,

Fable
I am so sorry Melissa,

Big hugs and love

Roger

Melissa,

You are an inspiration to me and many others. You set a wonderful example of how to structure information, how to provide supporting data, and then how to go out into the world to been, heard....AND HIRED!

Many congratulations. I'm sorry they stuck that misinformation there. That kind of stuff is really irritating, I agree.

As Roger said: many hugs and many congratulations...and MANY THANKS.

Susan
