Hypnosis in Mulitple languages--Particularly Japanese

I realize it's not the same language, but Brian David Philips does a lot of work through a Chinese translator. He might have some tips for you.

Thanks for the lead. I've seen a lot of foreign hypnotists using translators in Japan with great effect.

I've seen a lot of hypnosis in Japanese, though it is usually on TV or a comedy show, so rapid inductions are most often done. I'm fluent in Japanese, but have not seen many good scripts to start modeling from.

There's a great YouTube posting entitled "Hyori in Hypnosis" which shows a public demonstration of hypnosis in Japanese. It is especially interesting because you don't need to know a word of Japanese to know exactly what is going on by the body language of the subject and tone of voice of the hypnotist.

I remember a presenter at the Royal Society of Medicine whose native language was Gaelic saying in an audience discusson that she sometimes lapsed into that language even though the subject may not understand her, because her tone of voice communicates the essence of her suggestions for transquility and relaxation. Seeing this demonstration in Japanese on YouTube, I can understand exactly what she was talking about.

That you are fluent in the language is an advantage, but from what you say, you are not Japanes, and lack an understanding of the nuances. This being so I suggest you recognise that we all have five senses, and can use all of them to get the results we wish for....I am quite capable of working voiceless with a client once they know my intent. I suggest you learn this since it is invaluable when dealing with multiple languages, though I have heard it said that once hypnotised, a person can understand languages they do not speak. Personally I have never had this experience but don't dispute it...
Much of my work these days is Healing Touch therapy, and it matters not if my client speaks English, I got em covered, since some Calgarians are East Indian, some Chinese etc. Met a wonderful lady on Sunday who is from the Sudane I believe, she doesn't speak a word of english, but is determined to communicate what she can. It was fun.....

I learned Hypnosis and NLP in Englisch and practice in Dutch.
I'd say it all depends on how well you know the other language.
The best thing you can do, is not to apply the language to hypnosis, but to apply hypnosis to the language,
if you know what I mean.
Anyway some things are beyond language, like tonality, tempo, rapport.
These are things you can use in almost every language, to lead your subject into a trance.

The Japanese are a proud people, and realy nuance status.
Before hypnotising a Japanese subject, you will want to know whether to be the dominant person, or the subjugate.
If the subject is used to be the dominant one, you will mostly want to be the submittive, with a lot of subliminal instructions, unless you feel a dominant image will confuse and submit your subject.
If your subject is used to be a submissive personality, you can be realy upfront, and overt.

Do however look closely to the position of the nouns, of "normal" sentences and instructions, to get your subliminals right!
But if I am not mistaking, Japanese is a verry potent language, to enrich with covert instructions.
