HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

Remember how last week I told you we were going to be integrating new features into the site in 2010?

How does Twitter integration sound? Starting now, you can click a button below any forum discussion, blog post, etc. and tweet it to the world. If you read something you think is interesting, thought provoking, entertaining, or discussion starting, you can let people know about it with the press of a button.

For those of you who have been living under a rock, Twitter is the service that is the new "it" thing. From CNN to celebrities, everyone is sharing their brief news pieces via Twitter. If you spend about 5 minutes on the site you will understand how to use it, though motivation for 'why' is a bit more complicated.

In case you aren't incredibly tech or media savvy, what's in it for you is search engine optimization. Associating your name with hypnosis related content is good for you, because Google take Twitter very seriously. This is what people are calling "viral marketing." This will promote you, HypnoThoughts, and hypnosis in general. It also allows you to easily in keep in touch with many people interested in you or hypnosis. Additionally, it makes it easy for a single story to spread more rapidly through a web of different communities. I'm sure there are more benefits that will be added in the comments, but that's a good start.

Get familiar with this and the "add this" button to it's left (which has been there for a while) if you want to understand how to get better search engine ranking for your profile page and your name.

We are committed to making it easier for you to promote yourself. This is just the first of many upgrades we are planning in the new year. Look forward to your comments and feedback. People who are familiar with Twitter, feel free to jump in and help out the less experienced.

Happy Tweeting,
Scott

I still don't see why it can't be expected of people who are already signed up with Twitter, Facebook or what not to have their own way of posting interesting sites, such as bookmarklets or browser extensions.
But that's more of a general beef with "share buttons", not a specific complaints. I've put a couple of those buttons on my own website, too, after all... mainly as an experiment.

PS. Twitter is already listed in the menu of the "add this" button.
Not quite sure what you mean Jan-

Do you mean those services should have some sort of 'bookmark' list for each member that can be checked by other members?

I know twitter is already in the "add this" section, but now it does a better job of linking back to this site and promoting HypnoThoughts as the source in the sub-line of the tweet. More importantly, it makes it easier for people to just click it and tweet.
It works if you're already signed in to Twitter, Allan. You may want to try that.

Hmmm? I've got a twitter account and tried accessing from the Twitter icon on here.

This keeps coming up; a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Probably a temporary glitch from my end, so I'll try later from here.
Good idea. Also to link with FB. It will help get more of our ideas out to more people. Also, get a blogsite and link to all social media sites.

Great Job! I'm a huge fan of Twitter. Since I see you have the Add This Button. You pretty much have all your Social Networking and sharing sites covered. Yet, always good to make things even easier.

If you already are one Twitter. It is very easy to join your Twitter and Facebook accounts together. That way, tweet once, work twice.

Happy Days

Hi Scott,

That's excellent. We've been amazed by the reach of Twitter. In addition to the 16,000 followers we now have we are being 'listed' in lists for publishers, publishing, nlp, hypnotherapy etc. Back in September when Alicia's book 'Stop Bedwetting in 7 Days with NLP and Hypnotherapy' was launched, we were lucky to have Michael Neill re-tweet the launch and 100 people in the USA (where we have distribution but not an office yet) bought the book that day. Twitter represents 25% of our website traffic and we have had everyone from major institutions to practitioners contact us through it.

Well done - hopefully more will follow your example.

No. I just meant that all of these services offer some kind of utility to easily share any page your're visiting... and I can't help but wonder how people who don't use something like that are more likely to share a link to your page just because you add a button to it. But, of course, that's just idle speculation, and perhaps a hint of frustration about the kinds of things you almost get roped into as a webmaster.
Well done, Scott.

Web 2.0 is where it's at for so many of us, and as our internal discussions within the profession begin to be seen in the professional light that this site reflects, it makes things better for all of us.

Let's show the world what we've got, folks!

Is there a way to assign people you follow to different groups? Getting the same tweet from multiple people kinda stuffs my inbox and makes sorting quite tedious. Or a way to delete posts once they have been read?
We will be upgrading this feature over the weekend and in to next week. We are hoping to make it a little cooler for those with more twitter experience.

Keep an eye out,
Scott

On twitter you can assign different people you follow or like to a list. Just title it, for example, I have Hypnotherapy list. You can make different categories lists. Then list your particular twitter lists on, http://listorious.com/ . That's what I use.
Great idea ..that is good to have all the social networking right here too
