Hi Hypno Hick,

The NGH isn't a school, it's a certifying body.  There are NGH approved schools, and there are schools that are certified by other organizations.

Are you asking about schools with different curriculums, or are you looking for different organizations?

Hypnosis Motivation Institute = HMI
So... a school needs to be approved by the NGH? I guess different organizations is more of what I am looking for... kind like carol's response. Thanks for the reply Scott and Carol
No a school doesn't need to be approved by the NGH or any other organization.  Some organizations may have a permanent school set up either at a physical location or online.  Other organizations offer training and certification course in various different areas of hypnosis.   Hypnothoughts has a great representation from a number of different certifying organizations.

No the schools are not regulated by teh NGH ...the NGH is a organization for Hypnotist and Hypnotherapist to join and find others of the same interest..A school such as HMI is independent.

Hi Shaun, the real question is why are you asking??? And what is it that you are looking for??? You are promoting Hypnosis classes on your website currently... No offense but I am scratching my head....

So if you are promoting this stuff you should really know it however there is the

NGH

ABH

IMDHA

and half a dozen other certifying body's who's certification means ZIP... Nothing, Nada.. You pay them they send you a paper you are certified.

( I am simplifying here a bit)

There are many schools and a lot of different teachers... So what are you looking for?  Holistic, Metaphysical, Technical, Stage???? You have very esoteric teachers and you have people with a solid grasp of NLP and Technical process.

Sincerely,

Justin James

Like the others said, the NGH isn't a school. It's a professional organization and certifying body. Schools that are NGH-approved are merely tied in to the NGH so that their students can obtain a membership in the NGH upon graduation; they have to meet the NGH's educational standards to that, which is where the approval comes in.

There are other hypnosis organizations out there, such as the IACT/IMDHA, ABH, AIH, SET, etc., as well. They all have their own requirements for certifying/membership, but a lot of them are also reciprocal; get a membership with one and you can get a membership in the other without having to supply all the training documentation again.

That said, the organization I recommend purely for certifying is SET. The Society of Experiential Trance only certifies people who have proven they can do the work, while a lot of other organizations just require the education and don't check your ability to perform.

Brian David Phillips on this site is the owner of SET, and several of the other members here are instructors for SET.

I myself am a member of IACT/IMDHA as well as SET and I get good stuff from both.

Now, for schools, as opposed to organizations, HMI in California is a good school, as is Cal Banyan's school, or Gerry Kein's Omni Hypnosis Center. Roy Hunter in Washington offers hypnosis training that ties in with the NGH, I believe, as well as more specialized training in Parts Therapy. Many of the SET instructors do online training and certification as well as in-person training and certification.

(As if the two were mutually exclusive!)

As Scott pointed out, there are hypnosis schools (trainers or groups of trainers), and there are certifying bodies. There are some schools that are highly respected by myself and others, and there are certifying bodies that are more popular than others.

The two biggest organizations are the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) and the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA). It is good to be a member of one of these, as they have conventions and send out regular physical newsletters and so on. I think the Society of Experiential Trance (SET) has a lot of great trainers as well.

That said, there's a lot of politics around hypnosis certification, and so what you need to know is that there is no standardized requirement to become "certified," only a certain number of course hours and a curriculum to be certified by a particular organization. I think the strictest is still Gil Boyne's American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE).

If you're interested in a school, the advice I'd give is to look around for who is the best in the business, and get out to their training. Only train with those who are up to the expert level.
I currently am certified and a current member with the NGH, I would like to become a trainer however I am looking into other possible schools that I may want to instruct for. I would like to check into them and see all their curriculum. Thank you all for your input... thank-you

Hi Hypno Hick aka Shaun Dee:

Since you are a Certified Member of the NGH and a PhD in Hypnosis, I wonder what answer you were looking for?

Certainly a person with your level of education would be able to identify that the NGH is not a school but an organization.

You currently have John Page a BCH, CI with the NGH as the referral school on your web site. Are you looking for another organization to direct those who seek training through your web site?

Shaun since you ask this question as if you are trying to learn hypnosis, I am wondering what was your motivation?

Yours in Health,

John Brochu
