So after a day of sitting completely still, I decided to share with all of you just how well I think HypnoSummit 2.0 is going. I say going, rather than went, because we have had 204 different computers visit the site since Monday morning. People are actively enjoying the library and vendor booths. I see people have purchased products, joined mailing lists, grabbed free downloads, and watched many hours of content in the last few days. This just further proves the thesis I’m about to share:

HypnoSummit 2.0 was a phenomenal success.

LET ME START WITH THANK YOU’S:

I can say with all honesty and humility that things went better and more smoothly than I had anticipated. This was our second event this year, in fact it was our second HypnoSummit within 6 months, and the improvements were great. A lot of credit goes to a team of people you all will never meet for helping Melissa and I pull a project of this scale together. We asked Expos2 to redesign and repurpose their platform’s architecture for us and they came through with flying colors.

We also need to thank all the great speakers who supported this event. The HypnoSummit is still in its infancy, and those of you who invested your time and effort into sharing your insights in a new format are helping us reach new audiences who are asking for more education. This is emotionally rewarding and highly encouraging to Melissa and me.

Thanks also goes to all of you who viewed the 60 presentations on a wide variety of hypnosis topics. A sincere thank you goes out to everyone involved for doing the things that made this event so much fun.

STATISTICS:

For the second time in a row, we hit traffic numbers that were simply unbelievable. We had around 300 people from 14 countries online at one point or another. And it wasn’t just that people showed up, it was that they got engaged. The tech team we worked with said these were the most consistent and high numbers their servers have ever seen.

Let me share with you a diagram that says it all. Below is a chart of our server throughput, meaning the amount of data we were transmitting. As you can see, once the doors opened people showed up and just kept watching lectures. This isn’t just people signed on, this is how much content is being sent out. Notice that for two full days things didn’t drop off, not even at night!

Over 90% of our lectures worked and were on time. Of the ones that didn’t, one was totally my fault. The others were tech troubles with the presenters’ computers or internet connection. We’ve learned from these experiences and are coming up with a solution to prevent them from happening again. We thank those presenters for their patience and commitment to helping get the information out to you.

At the first Summit 10% of our presentations were live. This time 30% were live and we are working on continuing to raise that number in the future.

Once again, I personally took every call that came into the help line. We had about a 70% reduction on tech support calls since our last event and a significantly higher solution rate. The number one tech problem reported was: I’ve lost my password. The second most common had to do with videos freezing. We diagnosed this and concluded that it had to do with user connection speeds, almost always attributed to wireless router settings. While our servers weren’t the problem, we are working on some way of helping people adjust their router settings preemptively to avoid this next time.

Unfortunately, 5 people had unresolvable compatibility issues and will receive a refund. Considering no new software was required and the event worked on Windows, Mac, and Linux based machines in 14 different countries, I consider this a very impressive success rate. We know we aren't perfect yet and that we have plenty to work on, but we are extremely satisfied with the improvements and the direction we are headed. To those of you who had frustrating wireless internet connections or trouble accessing the site, know that we are working to make this information even more accessible.

The only real hiccups we had were when I tried to delay the restart of the media server until a break on Sunday (against the advice of the tech lead manning the server) and when we were attacked by hackers trying to pirate our data. With the exception of those two events, everything went smoothly. The total downtime from those events combined was under 10 minutes.

FOLLOW UP:

While the lectures are still in the library for the next three weeks (along with the vendor booths remaining open for sales) we are already in the process of getting the videos up on www.HypnoSummitStore.com for individual purchase. If you want to purchase a lecture to own and keep, you can do so here. The first HypnoSummit lectures are currently up on the site and we are hoping to update the rest in the next couple of weeks.

As for CEU’s, we will be emailing you a certificate of attendance in PDF format to send to the certifying organization of your choice. Expect these in the next two to three weeks.

HYPNOSUMMIT 2010:

We have already signed contracts to put on more events, and have big plans for upgrades and changes we want to the system. One of the biggest goals for us is to integrate a fast forward/rewind feature in the pre-recorded video section. Many people, including me, have requested that and we hear you loud and clear.

And while we are listening, WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK. Tell us what you liked, what you hated, what you loved using, and what you ignored. Tell us what we need to add and improve to make the HypnoSummit even more valuable. I will be putting together a survey as soon as time permits, but for now feel free to leave your responses here. We are looking forward to hearing what you think about the HypnoSummit.

I’m really excited about some of the upgrades we have already started building, as well as some of the speakers we already have signed up to present at our next event.

Thank you all for making this event so much fun and such a great success. We are committed to making the HypnoSummit even better than ever and helping reach more people looking to gain better hypnosis education.

Talk to you all soon,
Scott Sandland

I loved (and am still LOVING) the Summit! The presenters all did such a great job giving of themselves. Not only was the material wonderful but there were so many creative ways of presenting and marketing it to us like contests and neat downloads. It's a great example to us that are stuck or are new to how to get our ideas and expertise out there. Thank you all for that.

Here's something that no one to my knowledge has brought up yet. Perhaps we need a note on live viewing chat etiquette. I think I was the biggest pain for at least a half hour to one of the presenters as I chatted up people viewing his Live presentation. Most of it had to do with the presentation but that's beside the point. I did figure out that I could have a second window open and hang out in the lounge to chat outside of the lecture hall but there often wasn't other people listening to the lecture in both places so I couldn't make complimentary comments to the other viewers. I really don't have to next time but it would be nice. What I don't want to do is be disruptive. My apologies to anyone affected by my chatter. Love ya!

A view from a live presenter..

This was my first time presenting live for the HypnoSummit and although it takes alot more prep and management, I found the fact that it was interactive much more rewarding than if I had sent in a video. It meant that although I had the outline of elements I wanted to cover, I could also delve into detail in specific areas if the audience wanted me too. Hopefully this was useful for those who were watching.

Perhaps an idea for next time would be for a forum where the presenters could share idea's about their presentations and booths and this would then increase the quality across the board?

Take care

Lot's of good feedabck here already,

and I agrree with most of the positve encouraging comments.

I too enjoyed most of all the live presentations,
much more than the prerecorded ones.
It gave the real feel of being at a live conference/convention,
particularly when the presenters acknowleded our
comments/questions and wove that into their presentation.
(some were better at this than others).
Whenever I had to choose between two presentations
which I was interested in,
I would opt for the live one,
knowing that I could watch the pre recorded one later.

The Chit chat lounge was virtually unused.
Most people went to the Q&A chatroon,
initially for that purpose,
and then stayed there for their general chit chat.
(this did not present a problem, most of the time).

I would prefer it if there was a gap after each presentation for the Q&A session.
some people, just rushed off to the next presentation,
while others stayed in the Q&A chatroom,
at the same time as being in the next presentation,
which had it's advantages,
as well as it's drawbacks.
Those who are used to multi tasking in chatrooms
on the internet, had little problem with this

What might work better would to be to
have he two presentations staggered,
ie. one lecture room starts on the hour,
and the other at half past the hour.
This would mean that the Q&A chatroom,
would have half an hour specifically
for the presenttaion just finnished,
before people came in from the one in the other lecture room.
his would avoid two presenters competing to get their discusion going.

I found when I tried to use the presenters module,
(I was on early on the first day)
It did not seem to be working.
fortunately Gary suggested trying to just log into the summit.
which worked,
so I didn't go back to use the presenter module after that.

I am not sure if it was just an initial problem that was sorted out later,
or whether that was the same for everyone throughout the summit.

I enjoyed the ongoing chat with people in the Q&A lounge
(we had a right laugh!)

A couple of video chats with some people was great fun.
(Cheers Brennan, and Richard)

Now that I know how the whole thing works,
next time I plan (if invited)
to do a couple of live presentations,
and at least one well thought out,
well produced pre-recorded presentation.

I have a few ideas brewing.

I had no problems logging in and out of the site,
and appart from the few technical problems,
where I used the downtime, to reboot the machine.
I was very happy with the whole thing.

Love and hugs,

Fable
Hi Donna
What a coincidence you noticed that too! Some of the presenters shared really great valuble information and techniques. You almost feel obligated to buy something to thank them for thier sincerity energy and effort. There were a couple of folks like that I have been in seminars with and I own Kilobucks worth of thier stuff... Because it is original and valuble and they let me discover that for myself. That just seems to happen naturally when you perceive value doesn't it. Then there were the marketers... I didn't always finish those talks; I needed to change the water in my dogs bowl first and then fold my underwear and somehow found enough other things to do to get back to the screen as they finished.
There were a lot of folks there we don't normally meet on hypnothoughts so it was a great introduction to some new and wonderful people with really great stuff and... a few new credit card bills, but what the heck it's about my skillset. Then there were some others that we do see on Hypnothoughts like seasonal tourists.. here for summit season gone the rest of the year. What's up with that.? ....... Nod your head if you Understand.

Scott,

Beautiful! Love hypnosummit. Great presenters and great information.

There were some presenters who weren't afraid to share some good techniques and why they use them. Not only did I walk away with the feeling I could learn more from them, but I will now seek more information from them (via books they sell or what-have-you). Then there were some presenters who were just trying to hock their wares - which is a total turn off.
I highly recommend the first way of business. If I walk away thinking they did something for me...my money starts flying out of my pocket towards their bank account. It just happens. ~grin.

I loved the Q & A room.... as well as the chat features in specific rooms. It was awesome connecting with old friends and again with those people I met at Redondo beach ~ good times, good times~ and great, too...connecting and making new friends.

Life just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? Thanks to all involved!
~D.
Hi Scott,
Thank you for answering my support call and for all the hard work you and your team put into this. I spent almost the whole day Saturday and into the night glued to my Mac.
Since I didn't have as much time Sunday, I've been grabbing what I missed from the archives. I have to say this option was a big reason I signed up for the Summit.
I love that you are planning to have the fast forward and rewind option since that was the only negative for me.
Thank you!!!!

I had a fabulous time at the HypnoSummit, even thought I'm not even a hypnotherapist (I'm a marketer. Sorry, Hugh!)

This was my first time presenting, and in retrospect I wish I had presented live. I would have, but the PowerPoint module didn't quite live up to Scott's standards for this edition of the HypnoSummit so we didn't have that option. I hope by next time presenters will be able to combine live video with presentation slides. However, I did sort of "live blog" myself in the chat room, and the folks in the room seemed to get a lot out of that.

I was surprised that I found the live chat to be one of the most fun aspects of the event. I didn't have the guts to try live video chat (I'd have to clean my office for that!) but next time I will give it a go.

Like Fable, I had problems with the "Presenter" side of the software, but I understand a fix is already in the works.

I think the idea of staggering the start times by 30 minutes is a great one, especially for the post-lecture chat aspects. It might work out even better for Scott, too, since he'll have a half hour between panicked tech support calls from people like me (instead of getting two at once at the top of every hour.)

Ditto on fast forward/rewind.

One change I'd make in the lecture hall. It would be great to be able to initiate downloads so they're visible to participants in the lecture hall. Sort of like how you can send files back and forth on Skype. It would be great to be able to give people their handouts in the hall instead of sending them elsewhere (I sent people to a web page I set up, but you never know how many people will miss out on that because they missed the end of the lecture.)

In my dreams, there would be one window in the lecture hall for the presenter's live video, and another window where you can play multimedia--PowerPoint presentations, video clips, and even display live web pages, all while giving a real time video lecture.

One other change I'd suggest. I have no idea if this is possible, but it would be nice if all live lectures were only viewable in real time until they're actually completed. Basically, you'd join a lecture already in progress, not at the beginning if it has already started. From a presenter standpoint, it's hard to interact with a room full of people where most of them have been there for 30 minutes, but some came in at the 17 minute mark, the 13 minute mark, 4 minutes, etc. and they're seeing entirely different parts of the lecture depending on when they came in.

I really have no serious complaints about the HypnoSummit. I'm insanely impressed with Scott's incredible technical accomplishments--from a technical standpoint, it's just staggering to have pulled off two such events in the same year. It's mind-boggling.

Overall, I'm incredibly proud to have been a tiny part of this enterprise and I'm very excited for the future! Congratulations, Scott, Melissa and the whole team!!!

Hi Kathleen
And indeed a very good marketer you are, as I watch Scott's picture take over the entire left side of my Tweetdeck! Perhaps I should revert to Donna's phrase "presenters who were just trying to hawk thier wares" Nod your head if you understand.!

Kathleen...
You were awesome and anyone who watched your presentation had to have walked away with good info. and wanting to explore more. I loved it.

Hugh...
to your 'seasonal tourists' comment ~ did you see me nodding?? ya, what's up with that? ~grin.

My earlier comment on 'hocking wares' was in direct correlation to how money flies out of my pocket. I meant no disrespect to hocking and/or wares.
I did like some better than others...but then, everyone finds treasure in different ways, don't they?

Cheers,
~D.

Geez, Donna, thanks so much. :) I had such a good time putting all that together. I'm really, really glad you found the info valuable! I had so much material, it was really hard to whittle it down to just one hour. :)

Hi Donna,
Since we are in obvious rapport on the issue (grin)... yes I sensed the correct nodding of head response. and ... if I was opposed to selling "wares" at the Hypnosummit ... I wouldn't be looking at $397.90 of new credit card bills, Like I said ... It's all about making my skills ... "better". Loved every minute of the summit ... including the time I refreshed my dog's water dish and whatever time I had remaining on my 50 hrs ... will be spent over the next two + weeks revisiting my favorites, Treasure is where you find it... If you know how to look.

Fantastic - Fantastic - Fantastic.

I am so grateful for the HypnoSummit, and for the re-vivification of my HypnoThoughts connections (former seasonal tourist-turned-devotee here . . . admitted . . . took some time off :-)

The only addition I have regarding potential improvements will only apply to those of us who were "multi-screening" like Fable was talking about. My comment is about the use of real estate on the screen. The chat / discussion window being visually distanced from the presenter's video window made it challenging to see both at the same time (again, only when I was multi-screening in order to be able to greet visitors at our booth, and keep the Q-and-A window open so I could get answers from the previous presenter, etc.)

Kathleen's marketing prowess is PROOF that we should follow her lead and soak up her fantastic presentation materials. I never once witnessed any ware-hawking, with the exception of BDP's hilarious "Go Buy My Stuff" approach, which is done so genuinely and non-manipulatively that it makes me like him even more (*Brennan checks his pendulum* :-)

Amazing presentations, amazing technology, amazing community. Thank you all so much.

Brennan
Although I registered in advance for the summit, I was not able to participate live. How do I view the presentations now?
Thank you!

My number one issue is one you are already addressing...fastforward/rewind buttons...that would make all of it so much more usable.

I REALLY enjoyed the presentations which were LIVE via webcam with the speaker. These presentations were much better than the pre-recorded videos.

In an offline summit you get a chance to meet the presenter, network and such...when the presenters were live this weekend we could still meet them, ask questions, get immediate responses, network...but with the pre-recorded videos that wasn't the case. I am grateful to all the presenters who took the time to present live.

I am also grateful to the presenters who were present in the chat rooms for their own presentation (pre-recorded ones). That way we could still ask questions about the video as it played, network and such.

I TRULY appreciate that you, Scott were taking care of technical issues. You personally helped me (hypnokerry) via webcam and I thought that was fantastic. Nice job.

One thing that I thought was completely UNDERUSED by the vendors were their booths. The software you use offers so many things in the way of marketing for the vendors. I was disappointed to go to a booth and find no contest, no downloads, nothing to purchase, etc. Might I suggest that you and your people at HypnoSummit put together information for your vendors stressing to them the importance of filling up their booths, suggestions for what to put there, etc. What a missed opportunity for many of them.

Your summit had LOTS of information...lots of different topics lectured on...as I play catch up on videos in the library I am still feeling "hypnosis overload"...which is a good thing because it means you had a lot of information to overload me on.

I'm looking forward to the next Summit. Thanks to everyone involved who obviously put so much effort into pulling this off. It is much appreciated.
