So after a day of sitting completely still, I decided to share with all of you just how well I think HypnoSummit 2.0 is going. I say going, rather than went, because we have had 204 different computers visit the site since Monday morning. People are actively enjoying the library and vendor booths. I see people have purchased products, joined mailing lists, grabbed free downloads, and watched many hours of content in the last few days. This just further proves the thesis I’m about to share:

HypnoSummit 2.0 was a phenomenal success.

LET ME START WITH THANK YOU’S:

I can say with all honesty and humility that things went better and more smoothly than I had anticipated. This was our second event this year, in fact it was our second HypnoSummit within 6 months, and the improvements were great. A lot of credit goes to a team of people you all will never meet for helping Melissa and I pull a project of this scale together. We asked Expos2 to redesign and repurpose their platform’s architecture for us and they came through with flying colors.

We also need to thank all the great speakers who supported this event. The HypnoSummit is still in its infancy, and those of you who invested your time and effort into sharing your insights in a new format are helping us reach new audiences who are asking for more education. This is emotionally rewarding and highly encouraging to Melissa and me.

Thanks also goes to all of you who viewed the 60 presentations on a wide variety of hypnosis topics. A sincere thank you goes out to everyone involved for doing the things that made this event so much fun.

STATISTICS:

For the second time in a row, we hit traffic numbers that were simply unbelievable. We had around 300 people from 14 countries online at one point or another. And it wasn’t just that people showed up, it was that they got engaged. The tech team we worked with said these were the most consistent and high numbers their servers have ever seen.

Let me share with you a diagram that says it all. Below is a chart of our server throughput, meaning the amount of data we were transmitting. As you can see, once the doors opened people showed up and just kept watching lectures. This isn’t just people signed on, this is how much content is being sent out. Notice that for two full days things didn’t drop off, not even at night!

Over 90% of our lectures worked and were on time. Of the ones that didn’t, one was totally my fault. The others were tech troubles with the presenters’ computers or internet connection. We’ve learned from these experiences and are coming up with a solution to prevent them from happening again. We thank those presenters for their patience and commitment to helping get the information out to you.

At the first Summit 10% of our presentations were live. This time 30% were live and we are working on continuing to raise that number in the future.

Once again, I personally took every call that came into the help line. We had about a 70% reduction on tech support calls since our last event and a significantly higher solution rate. The number one tech problem reported was: I’ve lost my password. The second most common had to do with videos freezing. We diagnosed this and concluded that it had to do with user connection speeds, almost always attributed to wireless router settings. While our servers weren’t the problem, we are working on some way of helping people adjust their router settings preemptively to avoid this next time.

Unfortunately, 5 people had unresolvable compatibility issues and will receive a refund. Considering no new software was required and the event worked on Windows, Mac, and Linux based machines in 14 different countries, I consider this a very impressive success rate. We know we aren't perfect yet and that we have plenty to work on, but we are extremely satisfied with the improvements and the direction we are headed. To those of you who had frustrating wireless internet connections or trouble accessing the site, know that we are working to make this information even more accessible.

The only real hiccups we had were when I tried to delay the restart of the media server until a break on Sunday (against the advice of the tech lead manning the server) and when we were attacked by hackers trying to pirate our data. With the exception of those two events, everything went smoothly. The total downtime from those events combined was under 10 minutes.

FOLLOW UP:

While the lectures are still in the library for the next three weeks (along with the vendor booths remaining open for sales) we are already in the process of getting the videos up on www.HypnoSummitStore.com for individual purchase. If you want to purchase a lecture to own and keep, you can do so here. The first HypnoSummit lectures are currently up on the site and we are hoping to update the rest in the next couple of weeks.

As for CEU’s, we will be emailing you a certificate of attendance in PDF format to send to the certifying organization of your choice. Expect these in the next two to three weeks.

HYPNOSUMMIT 2010:

We have already signed contracts to put on more events, and have big plans for upgrades and changes we want to the system. One of the biggest goals for us is to integrate a fast forward/rewind feature in the pre-recorded video section. Many people, including me, have requested that and we hear you loud and clear.

And while we are listening, WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK. Tell us what you liked, what you hated, what you loved using, and what you ignored. Tell us what we need to add and improve to make the HypnoSummit even more valuable. I will be putting together a survey as soon as time permits, but for now feel free to leave your responses here. We are looking forward to hearing what you think about the HypnoSummit.

I’m really excited about some of the upgrades we have already started building, as well as some of the speakers we already have signed up to present at our next event.

Thank you all for making this event so much fun and such a great success. We are committed to making the HypnoSummit even better than ever and helping reach more people looking to gain better hypnosis education.

Talk to you all soon,
Scott Sandland

Although I registered in advance for the summit, I was not able to participate live. How do I view the presentations now?
Thank you!

My number one issue is one you are already addressing...fastforward/rewind buttons...that would make all of it so much more usable.

I REALLY enjoyed the presentations which were LIVE via webcam with the speaker. These presentations were much better than the pre-recorded videos.

In an offline summit you get a chance to meet the presenter, network and such...when the presenters were live this weekend we could still meet them, ask questions, get immediate responses, network...but with the pre-recorded videos that wasn't the case. I am grateful to all the presenters who took the time to present live.

I am also grateful to the presenters who were present in the chat rooms for their own presentation (pre-recorded ones). That way we could still ask questions about the video as it played, network and such.

I TRULY appreciate that you, Scott were taking care of technical issues. You personally helped me (hypnokerry) via webcam and I thought that was fantastic. Nice job.

One thing that I thought was completely UNDERUSED by the vendors were their booths. The software you use offers so many things in the way of marketing for the vendors. I was disappointed to go to a booth and find no contest, no downloads, nothing to purchase, etc. Might I suggest that you and your people at HypnoSummit put together information for your vendors stressing to them the importance of filling up their booths, suggestions for what to put there, etc. What a missed opportunity for many of them.

Your summit had LOTS of information...lots of different topics lectured on...as I play catch up on videos in the library I am still feeling "hypnosis overload"...which is a good thing because it means you had a lot of information to overload me on.

I'm looking forward to the next Summit. Thanks to everyone involved who obviously put so much effort into pulling this off. It is much appreciated.
Thanks, Brennan, your check is in the mail. ;)

I would print out the program guide and then log on and go to the library. All the presentations are there. The program guide makes it easier to connect a specific speaker with the presentation, I have been allowing myself two to three hours a night to watch and rewatch presentations I liked.

BDP's approach is fun...and I too think he's great.
but then...he always delivers the goods.
I have yet to be in BDP's presence where I didn't come out of it with some kernal of: "that was good" "that was fun" "that was worth it" "I'll do that again"

Great place to be.

I never once witnessed any ware-hawking, with the exception of BDP's hilarious "Go Buy My Stuff" approach, which is done so genuinely and non-manipulatively that it makes me like him even more

Guest ID...vs...real name...Very good point Brian...I totally agree...they should be signed in with their names.

I too would like to have fast forward and rewind buttons and/or the ability to jump through the timeline of a video in the library. There were a couple that I had to stop watching for whatever reason and it was tedious to have to sit through it all again to get to the last ten minutes I missed upon second viewing.

Kerry has a very good point about live interaction. While I fully understand the advantage of pre-recorded presentations (I did two for the first Hypnosummit), please remind folks to actually show up for their own presentations. In my sessions, last time, I was there live during the initial airing in order to provide feedback to questions or just to interact. The pre-recorded sessions seemed far less interactive this time around . . . at least for the few I saw (although, honestly, I was looking for live presentations for the most part, figuring I can watch pre-recorded ones in the library on my own time so there is that - since the schedule was built to favor the other side of the planet from where I live I made due - THAT is not a complaint, just a reality and I think most of us on this side of the planet were fine with the adjusting to the schedule).

It was obvious that it was mostly the live presentations that had problems but some of that was user error (you gave us reminders to watch the tutorial and to test our systems but it seemed some didn't quite get the hang of it and that step about selecting your presentation time was crucial for others). :-)

I would like to see that presenters when they log in do so with a name instead of getting a generic GUEST ID so that it would be possible to tell which guest is whom. Sometimes you would have three or four people with the same Guest ID which made it problematic as to knowing who was there (most would put their name or the like in parenthesis when discussing so we worked around it but it is just something nice).

Over all it has been and obviously still is a great event. The technical improvements were obvious and wonderful.

All the best,
Brian

Let me just add to this long and wonderfull testemony for Scott and Melissa's fantastic event. I too have enjoyed as many of the sessions I possibly could fit in, in the weekend and have slowly watched a few more since then. I must say I found the prerecorded sessions very informative and I enjoyed most of them with the presenter present in the chat room. The positive side of that was that the tech problems I saw with some of the live chats, were not there, yet I was able to get questions answered.

Last Summit I did suggest that all presentations would be run on a real time schedule, just like the live ones, and then placed in the library. Several of the chats I was in, mentioned that, and especially a couple of the presenters mentioned that they found it hard to relate to questions that were covering a wide span of time. I agree it would be nice to schedule sessions with a little time inbetween, though I could not see stagering working well, if presentations are run in real time. That would seem to waste time, and make people get to presantations late or make them sit around with nothing to do....
But I am sure that is already being looked at, knowing Scott... LOL

Finally, I want to thank all the presenters who put in time and effort in sharing their expertiese, wisdom and great tips, with all of us. I think, no... I know... I made some new friends, mentors, and even some life changing discoveries. I am not done yet, but I can say this summit was worth its price, in learning, friendship, and just haveing a greate time! Can't wait to the next one!
OK, th eidea od HS rocks awesomely. but here's my feedback.

1. not one single video was watchable - it starts for a minute then stops says it's buffering then hangs.
2. the ones that did play, played in jerky vision and audio making it a realy job to diseminate anything useful from the presentations.
3.not being able to full screen in today's technology is ridiculous. the screen is pathetically small!!! Another big annoyance for me.
4. I get what we're trying to do here having the cutout pics of people browsing books or pretending to watch a screen, but let's be real here - it's bloat and unnecessary.
5. The content Rocked! But so damned annoying to have it delivered in such a lo fi way!!! again with no rewind fast forward? Cmon guys!
5 The idea rocks and i know it will only get better well done to the organisers!

All sounds a bit negative,
and in some ways, a little contrary
to most of the feedback we have had.

appart from one or two hiccups,
most people seemed to be able to watch
without interuption or stalling.

The picture quality was great,
and the size of the screen was purposely kept small,
so that just about anyone with a computer online,
should be able to watch he videos in realtime,
without the problem of buffereing which you apear to have had.

Many problems encounterd were from
the attendees lack of skill in using their own equipment,
and I understand from many people,
that Scott did a marvelous job of talking people through,
the basics of:
clearing their cache, cookies etc,
freeing up disc space,
defragmenting the hard drive,
how to reccover the paswrord,
and log in name that they had registered with,
and then promptly forgotten,
and even how to reboot the computer as and when necessary.

All this at the same time as
physically co ordinationg the whole thing,
and giving presentations

All the learning points come across
just as well on the small screen,
as they would on a big one.
this is just another case of
bigger not neccesarilly equating to better.

The fast rewind facility,
well most of us have already agreed
that would indeed be a great improvement,
and it is prioritised for next time.

Bear in mind that this is only the second ever Global hypnosummit,
and I am not aware of anyone else doing this sort of thing on this scale.
It is leading edge stuff, for most of us.
It is a steep learning curve for all of us.

I personally was a bit dissapointed having made a DVD quality video,
to realise that it would be going out in flash quality,
but I soon got over that,
and on the day,
it didn't make any difference whatsoever.

Love and hugs,

Fable
Hey Fable.

I can understand how my post could appear negative, and that's certainly not my intention, as I was very excited at the prospect of HS2, and ticked off for missing HS1! The content itself - the talks the seminars and the speakers were great, and to hear Steve Andreas talk was going to be a highlight for me, but there again, sadly the audio was bad quality.

Being contrary isn't something that interests me, but giving an account of my experience is. As for my hardware, that's all in good nick and maintained well, AND I don't believe one should have to defrag a hard drive just to watch some streaming video content.

As I said before, I think the intention behind HS is killer, and I'm sure it's going to improve, get streamlined and sleek like me! (NOT!)

Have fun,

Hi Al-

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the HypnoSummit. Allow me to address your issues directly:

1. not one single video was watchable - it starts for a minute then stops says it's buffering then hangs.
over 90% of the people who attended had no problems with videos freezing. Of the 10% who did, we found almost everyone of them to be connected to the internet via a wireless router that was slowing their connection down. They usually had a fine internet connection, but a wireless router can do this sometimes.

2. the ones that did play, played in jerky vision and audio making it a realy job to diseminate anything useful from the presentations.
again, the videos were streamed from our end smoothly. I have the advantage of seeing the server data, and at our max we hit about 1/3 of our servers capability to send content.

3.not being able to full screen in today's technology is ridiculous. the screen is pathetically small!!! Another big annoyance for me.
Ironically, making the image bigger would make more problems for people, like you, who had buffering issues. We could make it bigger, but the only way to do so would be to have multiple versions of the lecture of different sizes and then have people select their connection types. Not only would that make the amount of data on the server over quadruple, many people would select the biggest setting even though they needed the small setting, and they would be upset. We currently have the hardware required to send video at fullscreen. We are limited by the attendees who don't have high speed connections.

4. I get what we're trying to do here having the cutout pics of people browsing books or pretending to watch a screen, but let's be real here - it's bloat and unnecessary.
those images are incredibly small, load once before the video, and don't take up anymore system resources than any other background we would use. Our goal is to create an immersive atmosphere.

5. The content Rocked! But so damned annoying to have it delivered in such a lo fi way!!! again with no rewind fast forward? Cmon guys!
We built this so that 98% of computers on the internet had the tech required to make it work. Remember, you didn't have to download or install anything to make the site work, unlike something like "go to meeting" or the like (which use the same size video). Stop and rewind was scheduled to be finished in time for the event, but we didn't get it done in time. The problem was that if someone tried to fast forward beyond the streamed/downloaded part of the video, it would freeze. As I've mentioned, we are going to have it working by the next event.

5 The idea rocks and i know it will only get better well done to the organisers!

Our big issue is cost. As I've mentioned before, this event is significantly less lucrative than seeing clients, and a lot more work. We simply can't afford to do some of the things we want to do without charging you guys more. That said, we are thrilled with where the event is at this point. Most of the issues you mentioned all come down to you plugging your computer into the router or modem instead of being wireless. How many websites do you know of that stream one hour videos?Sure, your connection is fine for watching a 5 minute video on YouTube or browsing the net, but how often have you tested it's ability to sustain a highspeed connection for an hour straight? Right now, 2 weeks later, the average time spent on the HypnoSummit website is just over 5 hours straight. To me that says many people are getting the results they want today. We are working on making things even better, trust me... my client just got here so I have to cut this short. I will get back to you with more on this later...

Scott Sandland

Hi Scott, I've successfully watched (about) an hour long lectures and programmes on google video, and occasionally youtube.

As for cost, I'd be happier paying a higher price for a bigger picture. The price point was good for the amount of content on there, I'm just ircked that each time I've attempted to access content I've been thwarted. Maybe it is a problem with my machine, but I seriously doubt that!

Al
Scott,

I am wondering if the pause feature would help folks who experienced buffering issues . . . at least for the archive library footage . . . when I have something in youtube or google video that is hanging, I will pause and let the entire stream buffer in before watching.

Not sure how one can buffer and stay interactive for the live streams though.

All the best,
Brian
